WCHS Wrestling placed 6th at the Penn Regional on Saturday while advancing 6 to next week’s Semi State.

The Tigers started the morning off strong with consecutive wins from the 106 through 126 weight classes as Tristan Wood, Ivahn Martinez, Alex Vallejo, and Gabe Veit all punched their tickets to Semi State.

Leo Castro was the next to advance at 144, and Enrique Silva moved on at 165.

Four of qualifiers moved on with third place finishes: Tristan Wood (106), Ivahn Martinez (113), Alex Vallejo (120), and Leo Castro (144).

Gabe Veit (126) and Enrique Silva (165) took fourth place.

The Tigers had four other competitors in action but did not qualify.

Warsaw will travel to East Chicago Central next weekend for a chance at moving on to the State Finals.

WCHS Wrestling at Sectional

The Warsaw wrestling team placed 2nd at the Plymouth sectional on Saturday.

Warsaw only had two wrestlers make it to the finals, but had 11 make it through as qualifiers for next week’s Regional.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Senior 144 pounder Leo Castro. Leo made his way to the championship with a 3-0 record. He advanced in the opening round by pin and then by tech fall in the semifinals. In the championship match he controlled the action to take a 9-2 win by decision.

Freshman 113 Ivahn Martinez was also a finalist for the Tigers. His 2-1 record for the day included a win by forfeit and a pin.

The Tigers earned 7 third place finishes to move the team into the second position.

Third place winners included Tristan Wood (106), Alex Vallejo (120), Gabe Veit (126), Nicholas Ra******rg (150), Zander Moore (157), Enrique Silva (165), and Owens Corbin (285).

Nolan Stump (132) and Liam Smith (190) both finished in fourth place to advance.

The Tigers will compete in next week’s Rochester Regional.

WCHS Wrestling vs Triton

The Tiger wrestlers closed the regular season at Triton on Wednesday night and secured a 57-22 victory.

Warsaw started off fast with wins by pin from Tristan Wood (106) and Ivahn Martinez (113).

Judin Garza and Alex Vallejo took forfeits at 120 and 126 to stretch the lead to 24-0.

Another pair of pins followed as Nolan Stump (132) and Gabe Veit (138) took care of business.

Leo Castro’s win by forfeit at 144 pushed the lead to 42-0.

Walker Perry filled in at 150 for the night and picked up a dominant 11-1 win by major decision.

Zander Moore earned a win by tech-fall at 157 pounds to extend the lead to 51-0 before Triton would get on the board.

The hosts picked up wins at 165, 175, 190, and 215 despite some good wrestling from the Tigers.

In the final match of the night, Owens Corbin won by pin at 285 pounds to wrap up the team score at 57-22.

The Tigers also won both of the JV matches that took place ahead of the varsity.

Luki Juarez and Lucas Kimball both won by pin in those matches.

Warsaw’s season record finished at 12-4.
They will compete in the IHSAA Sectional at Plymouth next weekend.

WCHS at NLC Championships

Warsaw finished 3rd in the Northern Lakes Conference tournament on Saturday.

Warsaw, Wawasee, and Concord all went 4-3 in the dual portion of the season and the tournament finish landed Warsaw in the third overall spot.

The Tigers had two champions for the day to lead the charge.

Senior 126 Gabe Veit and Junior 285 Owen Corbin went 3-0 to earn conference titles.

Senior 144 Leo Castro was also a finalist, earning a second place finish.

Four Tigers picked up third place finishes:
Tristan Wood (106), Ivahn Martinez (113), Enrique Silva (165), and Liam Smith (190).

Warsaw scored team points in 12 of 14 weights with 8 of those being in the top four.

The Tigers will take on sectional opponent Triton on Wednesday to close out the regular season.

Warsaw Wrestling earned the team championship at the East Noble Invitational on Saturday.

The Tigers’ depth propelled them to success as they got placement points from all 14 weights and only 1 champion.

Liam Smith went 4-0 at 190 pounds to lead the scoring for Warsaw.

Gabe Veit (126) and Ivahn Martinez (113) were also finalists for the Tigers. Both went 2-1 to take 2nd place.

Nick Ra******rg (150) and Owen Corbin (285) went 3-1 to take third place. Zander Moore (157) and Enrique Silva (165) had an extra win on their paths to third place finishes at 4-1.

Fourth place finishers for Warsaw included Tristan Wood (106), Ethan Crawford (113), KC Smith (138), and Matt Flores (175).

Warsaw’s other place winners were Alex Vallejo (120), Leo Castro (144), and Aydin Cook (215) at 5th, and Nolan Stump (132) at 6th.

The Tigers will head to Northwood for the NLC tournament next weekend.

The Class of 2026 for Warsaw Wrestling went out with a bang on Wednesday night with a 38-32 win on Senior Night over South Bend Riley.

The night started with the bigs as the 285 pound matchup saw a ton of action in the first period before Riley would take the win by pinfall.

At 106 pounds, Riley racked up points early and put the match away with another pin to take a 12-0 lead.

The Tigers got on the board with a win at 113 pounds. Ivahn Martinez trailed 6-1 at the end of the first period but rallied back with takedowns in the next two periods to force overtime. In the extra period, Martinez earned a takedown into a pinfall to move the team score to 6-12.

At 120 pounds, senior Alex Vallejo kept things rolling for Warsaw with a pin in the third period - tying the score at 12-12.

Next up for the Tigers was senior 126, Gabe Veit. In an unusually low scoring affair, Veit broke a 2-2 tie late in the third period with a takedown to win a 5-2 decision and give Warsaw their first lead of the night.

Warsaw put up points early at 132 pounds, but SB Riley was able to rally and win by tech fall to retake the lead at 17-15.

They paired that up with a late rally at 138 to win by pin and extend the lead to 23-15.

Senior 144 pounder Leo Castro got things rolling again for Warsaw. He was able to methodically grind away points and come up with a 9-2 win by decision.

The Tigers got a great effort at 150, but a late rally in the third period came up short and Riley would pick up another 3 team points.

Warsaw picked up 3 points of their own at 157. Zander Moore picked up an early takedown in the first period and was able to grind away two periods of rideouts to win 3-0 and move the team score to 21-26.

Senior 165 Enrique Silva dominated his opponent, picking up a 15-0 first period tech fall. His win pushed the meet into a 26-26 tie with 3 matches to go.

Warsaw fought tough at 175, but Riley pulled out a third period pin to go up 32-26.

A pair of seniors for Warsaw got the chance to close out the dual in their last home contest.

Liam Smith looked impressive in his second period pin at 190 pounds that tied the team score at 32.

Beckham Boylan then took the mat at 215 to close things out for the Tigers. After an early takedown, he worked into a late first period finish and sealed the 38-32 win for Warsaw with a pin.

The night also held 14 JV matchups prior to the varsity contest.
The Tigers picked up wins in 8 of those matches.
JV winners for the Tigers were:
Andrew Hankins, Aydon Long, Brandan Wolf, Walker Perry, Luki Juarez-Silvestre, Maddyx Derf, Aydin Cook, and Ethan Cook.

Warsaw's dual record moves to 11-4.
The varsity will be in action at East Noble on Saturday, and the JV will travel up to South Bend Riley.

The Warsaw Wrestling team was in action at on of the toughest tournaments in the state of Indiana on Friday; the Al Smith Classic in Mishawaka.

The Tigers finished day 1 in 25th place out of 32 teams. Warsaw had some quality performances from a lot of their guys, but did not advance anyone into the top 8 for day 2.

Leading the way for Warsaw with 3-2 records were Leo Castro and Owen Corbin, making it into the “round to go.”

Castro (Sr, 144) picked up a couple of gritty wins by decision in rounds 1 & 4, and had a win by pin early in the consolation rounds.

Corbin (Jr, 285) was a winner by major decision to start the day before being knocked into the consos. He then picked up tough wins by decision to keep moving forward.

Gabe Veit and Tristan Wood both went 2-2 for Warsaw.

Veit (Sr, 126) was a winner by pin in round one and in his first conso match.

Wood (Fr, 106) dropped his first match but then picked up a win by forfeit and another by decision.

Warsaw will be back on the mat on Wednesday when they host South Bend Riley. It will be Senior Night for the Tigers and their last home contest of the season.

The Warsaw Wrestling team hosted 1A #2 ranked Rochester Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers were highly competitive in the dual and held a late lead, but ultimately lost by a 30-45 score.

Beckham Boylan started things off for Warsaw with a tough 17-14 decision at 215 pounds.

Rochester picked up the next win at 285 by pin to go up 6-3.

Tristan Wood won by pin at 106 to regain the lead for Warsaw at 9-6.

Rochester strung together wins at 113, 120, and 126 to jump up 22-9.

Owen Barker got a big win for Warsaw at 132 by pin to close the gap.

Rochester got another win at 138 to go up 28-15.

Warsaw would put together a run of their own between 144 and 157.
Leo Castro picked up a win at 144 and Nick Ra******rg collected a forfeit at 150.

An 8-1 win by decision by Zander Moore put Warsaw up by a score of 30-28.

Rochester then closed the scoring with wins at 165, 175, and 190.

In JV action, the Tigers picked up wins in 6 of 8 matches.
JV winners for Warsaw included: Nolan Stump, Walker Perry, Luki Juarez-Silvestre, Aydin Cook, Colten Beeler, and Bower Willig.

Warsaw's record moves to 10-4 for the season. Their next contest will be at the Al Smith Invitational in Mishawaka next weekend.
