Thats a wrap on the first half of archery season. Thank you to all the guys and gals that called us out to help. We made friends with a bunch of great people and hopefully were able to put smiles on their faces. Some even learned a thing or two about tracking and deer in general, so that's a win in itself! We will be available for some night time tracking during firearm season as time allows. Also, give a call with your taxidermy needs, we can handle some more shoulder mounts if you have success. As hunters are shifting gears from archery to firearm season, things have slowed a bit. That has allowed Ginger to get on some tracks, and she has really taken her opportunity and ran with it. She took a gut shot buck 700 yards only to have to back out as he was still alive. Finishing up, she recovered her next two tracks. First one was pretty easy but always good practice, second was another gut hit. Only went 100 or so yards, but had alot of distractions that she worked thru. Her future looks good! Frieda, the old veteran, has been at her best, she had a run of 8 straight recoveries, 3 before noon one day. Good luck to everyone heading out still!

The tracking calls are really coming in now with the rut going strong. Heavy rut also explains why many of our recent tracks have been very long in distance. We've had several in the range from 800 to 1500 yards. Makes for a long drag for the lucky hunters to get their prize out, but the dogs love every step along the way!

Little Viktor even got in on the action, it was an easy practice track, but he did what he was supposed to do, and he was proud of himself for locating the prize. The dogs are all rested up and sick of laying around, its time to get busy after a slow start. Frieda and Josie are in full stride, and now young Ginger is in the game and showing she belongs. Today she tracked a marginally hit doe for just under 1 mile to the river, where it didn't make it out. She tracked like an old pro! Little Viktor is now waiting for some work, so, if any of our local friends gets an easy training track for him, we'd be happy to put him on it to give him a taste of the real thing. First week of bear camp was alot more challenging than last year, but Mark ended week 1 with his first Wisconsin bear. He made a perfect shot, and it only went 30 yards. Congratulations Mark! This weekend should bring better bear hunting weather, so good luck to those with tags to be filled. Remember, if you need help with tracking call right away for help and try to back out as soon as you loose blood.
