Weekend recap!!

This weekend was the final stop of Midwest Thunder .25 Quarter Midget Racing Series at Northwest Ohio Quarter Midget Racing! This is the kids favorite track so they were pumped to race it again!

Saturday

Ev jr Honda

Heat - 3➡️3
B-main - 4➡️5 a late move where Everett eventually backed out of cost him right at the end. He was passing for 2nd and then got freight trained on the final lap back to 5th
A -main - X and didn’t make it in. Ev wanted to sit in the pits and watch his friends race so that’s what we did. Kids are not allowed in the pits outside of their car. He got to watch his friend Asti battle it out for a championship!

Maddie sr Honda - Maddie drove her butt off all dang day in this car. Super bummed to have nothing to show for it. 😞

Heat - 7➡️7 very fast car and got chopped down on in the corner and her and the other car slowed up and were both down a lap before you could even blink. She was passing for 4th and probably could have finished even better than that!

C- main - 8➡️5

B - main - X ➡️ 10 again was running amazing and was in 4th place when she was passed and another car sent in 3 wide putting Maddie into a wall. Car was fine but she had limited time to try and make some moves. This ended our day in a very fast car!

Sunday

Ev jr animal
Heat - 6➡️6 Ev struggled to make moves despite having a very quick car. He was upset after the race but he knew what he had to do!

12 car A-main 😬😬 - 11➡️6 Ev woke up in the a main! He drove his butt off. Probably the best I’ve seen all year. We needed a caution bad at the end. I had a little too much gear in the car and it ran out of steam after about 8 laps or so. Top 4 were grouped up and we were about half a straight behind them for the rest of the race and just couldn’t reel them in.

Maddie Unr animal debut!

Heat - DNS our first major mechanical failure of the year had to come as Maddie was amped to make her debut. We sheered an engine key way long ways meaning basically unfixable in the pits 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ we mad dashed to the trailer and ended up just doing a full engine swap as we had one ready to go and we were going to have to start in the back of the lowest main anyway!

C main - 7➡️8 maddie was finding some speed as she got more and more confident through the run. But unfortunately she got taken out a couple times leading to the poor finish. She was running 4th at one point before getting spun on back to back restarts. Extremely frustrating but it’s a part of the gig and we take it on the chin and keep on digging! Bummed we couldn’t make a little more noise with her first appearance in the class regionally.

Midwest thunder is some stiff stiff competition and we set some lofty goals this year for the series. Everett met his two goals which were top 10s in Honda and animal. Maddie fell short of top ten in a 40 car field by 8 points if I did my math correctly. Both got a heat win this year which is massive and dad has some notes for the future! I’m so proud of both of my kiddos in their first year in competitive divisions!!

This sport is so tough to be competitive every week in! And both Maddie and Everett showed they can hang with the big dogs! We are extremely excited to see what we can do in this series next year and beyond!

Up next is the last race weekend at our home track this weekend. Saturday is the pumpkin race which is higher lap counts for features. Everett will have 50 lap features and Maddie will have 100 lap features 😬😬. Sunday is our red plate race and mom’s race!

We will post a full recap later but the best way to describe today was heartbreak. 💔 😞

Everett had two incidents with lap traffic today that cost him two wins and a championship. It stinks. He was devastated. He’s still figuring out how to navigate lap traffic. I told him this is a good problem to have it means we are fast! We just need to find ways to get around cleaner. We pick our heads up and keep digging! If you would have told me we’d be competing for a championship at the end of the year when we started this season I’d call it a win. Just stings a little when it was right in front of you. Not gonna lie dad was in tears with Ev after his animal race because I’m so proud of him and he deserved it, he’s worked so hard this year and it was so close!

Maddie’s Honda was an absolute rocket today! She was passing for 3rd place when the 3rd place car was also sending a pass on the 2nd place car. This sent it 3 wide into the turn and if you watch quarter midgets that’s usually no bueno. We picked up the strike being the inside car and got sent to the back. Maddie drove her way through the field to a 4th place finish in a 12 car A-main.

Going to copy and paste this from mom’s page.

September is NICU Awareness month. I am so incredibly thankful for the team of doctors and nurses that took care of Maddie for the 60 days that she was in their care.

Being born at under 2lbs, Maddie had so much developing and growing she needed to do before she was ready to come home. 60 days of it. I was there every day to hold her, to sing to her, to love her. But every night I went home to rest and I rested well knowing the love and care that she was surrounded with by her medical team. The nurses were there with me in the happy milestone moments and the moments when I broke down and cried. I will always remember them and how they held my baby through that time.

Special thank you to all of those nurses and all the NICU nurses out there especially my cousin Haley, who was born to love on those babies.

Maddie is a beautiful, strong, kind, funny, loving, compassionate girl. She truly was and remains our little miracle 🩷👣

Race weekend recap!
Special shout out to Aunt Val for covering our entry fees this weekend and for always supporting Ev and Maddie in their racing adventures!

This weekend we took on Buckeye Quarter Midget Racing for the 5th stop of Midwest Thunder .25 Quarter Midget Racing Series!!

Ev Jr Honda
Heat - 4➡️1 first mwt heat win and this put us on the pole of the a main 😬😬
A-main - 1➡️6 unfortunately dad missed on gearing. I went back and forth on this all day deciding what I should do. Ultimately made the wrong call. We ran in 3rd place for a good chunk of the race we just ran out of steam with gearing 😞

Maddie Sr Honda
Heat - 2➡️4 Maddie battled it out in this race and was just as fast as the 3 that finished in front of her. Her and the 3 car traded blows for a few laps passing and crossing each other over which let the top two pull away. Ultimately the 3 car got the best of us and we couldn’t run him back down.
B-main - 6➡️5 this out is as the x car in the a main.

A-main - We did not make it into the race unfortunately.

Sundays races were cancelled due to rain! 😢
Maddie was slated to make her Unr animal debut at Midwest thunder! We were bummed but not much you can do about Mother Nature.

Everett continues to drive his butt off. Winning anything at a mwt is a big deal especially in a 20 car field! Very proud of that one!
Maddie we just missed the mark a bit in an extremely competitive sr Honda field!

Next up is championship weekend at Mmra before our final stop of Midwest thunder at Maddie and Ev’s favorite race track Northwest Ohio Quarter Midget Racing!
