Wadsworth Ends Harding Season

The Warren Harding Raiders’ Varsity Baseball Team’’s disappointing 2026 season came to an end on Thursday in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II District semifinal. The Wadsworth Grizzlies advanced to the district final as they defeated the Raiders, 8-1, at Wadsworth High School.

Da’Rone Pennock got the start on the mound for Harding and he pitched well, keeping the Raiders in the contest. He allowed only one run in the first inning but walks got him in trouble in the third. Despite the walks, Pennock only allowed a run in the frame and Harding was still in the ballgame as they only trailed 2-0 through four.

While the pitching and defense kept the Raiders within striking distance of the Grizzlies, the offense continued to struggle as they have for most of the season. Doug Pleacher’s single in the third and Jaro Edmonds’ lead-off single in the sixth were the only Harding hits in the contest and they did not score a run until the sixth on an RBI single by Elias Johnson.

Despite the lack of offense, Harding only trailed 4-1. However, a two run fifth and four run sixth by Wadsworth ended any hopes of a Raiders upset.

Da’Rone Pennock fell to 0-2 on the season in being saddled with the loss for the Raiders. He allowed four runs, three earned, in four and a third innings on the hill. He struck out one and walked four.

Wadsworth advanced to the Region Five, Northeast District Final on Friday where they faced the Lakewood Rangers. Lakewood moved on to regional play as they defeated the Grizzlies, 8-3.

The Black and Gold’s season concludes with a record of 6-19.

We congratulate our seniors on their recent graduation and wish them all of the very best in their future endeavours.

Harding Drops Regular Season Finale, 8-3

After snapping their seventeen game losing streak after a doubleheader sweep of the Liberty Leopards on Monday, the Warren Harding Raiders’ Varsity Baseball Team hoped to build on their momentum on Tuesday as they hosted the Mathews Mustangs at Volunteer Field. Instead, the Raiders’ defense, which has been poor all season, let them down once again as the Mustangs headed back to Vienna with a 8-3 win.

Two Harding errors in the top of second allowed Mathews to score two unearned runs and it just snowballed from there. Of the eight runs scored by the Mustangs not a single one was earned.

After Mathews took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third, Harding was able to halve the lead in the bottom half of the frame. With one out, Jaron Edmonds tripled to left field and Kwa’me Adams brought him home with a sacrifice fly. Elias Johnson followed Adams with a single and moved to third on a pick-off attempt that ended up down the right field line. Doug Pleacher would then score Johnson with an RBI single to get the Raiders’ to within two at 4-2.

However, in the top of the fourth, three more Harding errors allowed Mathews to increase their lead to 7-2 and the game was essentially put out of reach.

Elias Johnson got the start on the bump for the Raiders and took the loss to drop to 1-5 on the season, although he deserved a much better fate. He allowed no earned runs on only six hits in six innings of work. He struck out two and walked two.

The Harding offense struggled once again as they only collected four base hits although two went for extra bases thanks to Jaron Edmonds’ triple and a double by Chase Kinter in the fifth. Kwa’me Adams and Doug Pleacher each drove in a run for the Raiders.

The Black and Gold complete the regular season with a record of 6-18 unless one final tune-up is scheduled prior to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II Tournament. As of now, the Raiders are scheduled to take on the Wadsworth Grizzlies on Tuesday, May 26 in a Northeast Region Five, District Two district semifinal. The game is scheduled for 5:00 PM at Wadsworth Baseball Field.

Best of luck to Coach Burnett and the Raiders.

Harding Stops Losing Skid, Sweeps DH from Liberty

The long nightmare is finally over! Coming into this evening’s Senior Night festivities and doubleheader against the Liberty Leopards, the Warren Harding Raiders’ Varsity Baseball Team has lost seventeen straight games after starting the season 4-0. By the time the final out was recorded in game two this evening, the Raiders suddenly found themselves riding a two-game winning streak as they swept the Leopards, at Volunteer Field, by the scores of 19-7 and 12-2.

The first game was the completion of a game from April 24th, at Liberty, that was suspended by rain and darkness with the game tied at seven after eight innings. Back on April 24th, both teams had to battle back from deficits to get the game to extras. Harding led 3-1 after one then trailed 5-3 after four frames. After Harding took a 7-5 lead after scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, Liberty scored two in the home half to tie it. After neither team plated a run in the eighth, the game was suspended.

When the game resumed at Volunteer Field, neither team was able to push a run across in the ninth. However, the Raiders had had enough and seemingly, out of nowhere, they exploded for twelve runs in the tenth to win it. The inning was highlighted by Elias Johnson and Doug Pleacher, who each recorded two hits in the inning, while Johnson drove in three runs and Pleacher two.

Marcellus Murillo-Lang picked up the win in relief to raise his record to 1-5 on the season. He did not allow a run, struck out six and walked four in his two and a third innings of work.

Elias Johnson and Doug Pleacher were the offensive standouts for the Raiders. Johnson collected five hits in seven at bats, which included two doubles, and had six RBI. Pleacher was three for six in the ball game and drove in two runs of his own.

In the regularly scheduled contest, the Raiders took advantage of six walks issued by Liberty pitching to come away with a 12-2 victory to complete the sweep.

Harding was able to take a 1-0 lead in the home half of the second when Doug Pleacher, who led off the inning by being hit by a pitch, scored on a passed ball.

After Liberty tied it in the top of the third, Harding would retake the lead in their half of the frame. Kwa’me Adams reached base due to a Liberty error then advanced to second on a passed ball then stole third. Elias Johnson singled him home to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead. After Mikel Williams singled, the Raiders had two runners on base. Johnson was eventually erased at home after trying to score on a passed ball but Williams’ courtesy runner, Ethan Boucher, scored on a passed ball to make it 3-1 but the Raiders were not done. With two outs, senior Doug Pleacher crushed a bomb over the left field fence, to push the Harding lead to 4-1.

In the fourth, Harding scored a run on a wild pitch, a passed ball and on an RBI single by Mikel Williams to increase the lead to 7-1. In the fifth, they would score two more runs on passed balls, two on a single by Jaron Edmonds and one on a sacrifice fly by Elias Johnson to make the final 12-2.

Jaron Edmonds went the distance on the mound for the Raiders to earn the complete game victory. His record now stands at 3-0 on the season. He allowed two earned runs on two hits in his five innings on the bump. He struck out five and walked three.

Mikel Williams led the way offensively for the Raiders as he went two for three with an RBI. Jaron Edmonds and Elias Johnson drove in two runs apiece while Doug Pleacher drove in a run with his solo home run in the third.

The Black and Gold are now 6-17 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, May 19th when they host the Mathews Mustangs at Volunteer Field. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM.

Harding Drops Suspended Game to Hubbard, 18-6

On Thursday, the Warren Harding Raiders’ Varsity Baseball Team and Hubbard Eagles completed a game that was suspended by rain on April 9th. Hubbard held a lead at the time of the suspension and dominated the contest when it resumed as they came away with a 16-8 win.

All four Raiders who had hits, Jayden Colbert, Doug Pleacher, Kwa’me Adams and Da’Rone Pennock also drove in runs in the contest. Jaron Edmonds and Isyah Johnson also had RBIs for the hosts.

Marcellus Murillo Lang was saddled with the loss to fall to 0-5 on the season. He allowed seven runs, four earned on four hits. He struck out three and walked three.

The loss dropped the Raiders to 4-17 on the season. They returned to action this evening at Volunteer Field to take on the Liberty Leopards.

Harding Swept by Fitch in 7-4 Defeat

In what has become a disappointing season for the Warren Harding Raiders’ Varsity Baseball Team, it has been difficult to find many positives. However, although they lost the two game series with the Fitch Falcons, including a 7-4 defeat on Tuesday at Harding’s Volunteer Field, the Raiders have played much better baseball than they have over the previous month. It is certainly something they can take into the Division II State Tournament that begins in two weeks.

For the second straight game, it was Harding that got on the board first. After holding Fitch scoreless in the top half of the first, Harding took a 1-0 lead in the home half. Kwa’me Adams drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a passed ball with two outs. He would score on a Fitch error to take the early 1-0 lead.

After Fitch tied it on a two-out RBI double by Dominic Anzevino in the second, the Raiders would answer to re-take the lead in their half of the inning. Jayden Colbert drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a single by Leon Stubbs. A perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Marcellus Murillo-Lang advanced Colbert and Stubbs into scoring position. A single by Demarea Hugley plated Colbert to put the Raiders in front 2-1. However, Stubbs was left stranded at third after a strike out, walk and fly out.

Fitch would answer with six unanswered runs including three in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Costly errors and timely hitting by the Falcons spearheaded the offensive onslaught.

Harding continued to fight and plated two in the bottom of the fifth to get them to within three but they could not get closer. Jaron Edmonds led off the frame with a single, advanced one base on a passed ball and moved to third on a one-out single by Elias Johnson. Johnson moved to third on a ground out and, with two outs, a Fitch error scored two to make the final 7-4.

Kwa’me Adams got the start on the mound for the Raiders and took the loss to drop to 0-2 on the season. He allowed six runs, only two earned, on six hits. He struck out five but walked five as well.

The offense had their best offensive production in quite some time as they recorded six base hits, all singles, while Demarea Hughley had the only Raider RBI on the night.

The loss means the Black and Gold closed the All-American Conference schedule winless, at 0-8, and they are now 4-16 overall. They return to action on Thursday, May 14th when they host the Hubbard Eagles. First pitch at Volunteer Field is scheduled for 5:00 PM.

Harding Can’t Hold Lead at Fitch, Lose 8-2

For the first time since the third inning of their 10-5 loss to the Girard Indians on April 23rd, the Warren Harding Raiders’ Varsity Baseball Team held a lead in today’s game against the Fitch Falcons at Fitch’s Richard Coppola Field. However, after scoring two runs in the top of third inning to take a 2-0 lead, the Falcons scored eight unanswered runs over the next three frames to secure an 8-2 All-American Conference win over the Raiders.

With the game scoreless in the top of the third, Harding was able to plate two runs thanks to the generosity of the host Falcons. Marcellus Murillo-Lang led off the inning by reaching base on a Fitch error and advanced to second on a second error on the play. Jayden Colbert followed with a sacrifice bunt but he also reached base on another Fitch error and the Raiders had two runners in scoring position with no one out. Murillo-Lang would score on Fitch’s third error of the inning to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. A fourth Falcon error in the inning, on a ground ball by Kwa’me Adams, scored Colbert to double the Harding lead.

Marcellus Murillo-Lang got the start on the mound for the Raiders and he managed to keep Fitch off the scoreboard through three innings of play. However, things began to unravel in the fourth inning as Fitch took a 3-2 lead. A lead-off walk and hit batter put two Falcons on with no one out. A triple by Evan Kessler followed as Fitch tied the game at two. After a line out, strike out and walk, Murillo-Lang induced a ground ball which should have gotten him out of the inning with the game still tied. However, as has been the case for the most of the season, a Harding error allowed Kessler to score to give the Falcons a lead they would not relinquish. Fitch would score three more runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to close out the scoring.

Murillo-Lang took the loss for the Raiders as his record now stands at 0-4. He went four and a third innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on only one hit. He struck out five but walked five as well.

The offense struggled once again as they could not capitalize on the six errors by the Fitch defense. The Raiders could only generate two hits, both singles by Jaron Edmonds and Kwa’me Adams, letting the Falcons off the hook.

The Black and Gold are now 4-15 overall and 0-7 in the All-American Conference. They will wrap-up conference play on Tuesday as they host Fitch at Harding’s Volunteer Field. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM.

Harding to Face Wadsworth in District Semifinal

Mother’s Day marks the annual voting for tournament seeding and the tournament draw for the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s State Baseball Tournament. Head Coach Andrew Burnett and the Warren Harding Raiders learned their seeding and their opponent for the Division II Tournament as they conclude their 2026 season over the next week.

In the Northeast District, there are thirty-three (33) teams in Division II. As expected, the Raiders did not fare well when it came to seeding as they came out of the voting seeded thirty (30).

With the increase to seven divisions for baseball for last season’s tournament, most sectional tournament brackets have been eliminated and the majority of the tournaments now begin at the district level. Harding will compete in the Northeast Region Five, Northeast 2 District in 2026 and will play a district semifinal against the Wadsworth Grizzlies. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26th at Wadsworth High School with first pitch set for 5:00 PM.

The Grizzlies enter the tournament as the twelfth (12th) seed and their overall record currently stands at 10-7-2. They currently sit in fourth place in the Suburban Conference-National Division with a record of 6-4-1. The winner will advance to the Region Five, Northeast 2 District Final against the winner of the Cleveland Rhodes Rams, seeded twenty-nine (29), and the top seeded Lakewood Rangers on Thursday, May 28th.

Lakeview Blanks Harding, 12-0

The Lakeview Bulldogs jumped on the Warren Harding Raiders’ Varsity Baseball Team on Thursday with a three-run first inning and never looked back as they shut out the Raiders, 12-0, at Volunteer Field.

Lakeview would add to their lead with four runs in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth. Brandon Toot was 3-4 with an RBI while Jacob Shaker was 2-2 with three RBI. Hayden Newton also collected two hits and two RBI in the Bulldogs’ victory.

Meanwhile, the Harding offense continued to struggle as Da’Rone Pennock recorded the Raiders’ only hit with a single in the third.

Elias Johnson took the loss on the bump for Harding as his record fell to 1-4 on the season. He allowed ten runs, eight earned, on nine hits in four innings of work.

The loss was Harding’s fourteenth consecutive on the season as their record stands at 4-14 overall. They return to action on Monday, May 11th when they resume All-American Conference play against the Fitch Falcons. First pitch at Richard Coppola Field in Austintown is scheduled for 5:00 PM. The two teams will conclude the two-game series at Harding’s Volunteer Field on Tuesday.

Harding Falls at Boardman, 11-0

For the second straight day, Boardman Spartans’ pitchers held the Warren Harding Raiders’ Varsity Baseball Team team to one hit as they completed the two game sweep of the Raiders, at Boardman, 11-0.

Boardman’s Colin Resetar, who has dominated the Raiders over the last four seasons on the mound, threw the one hit, complete game shutout. He struck out ten Raiders and walked two.

The Spartans only accumulated five hits but they took advantage of ten walks, two hit batters and three Harding errors to put up eleven runs.

Kwa’me Adams got the nod on the bump for Harding and took the loss to go to 0-1 on the season. He allowed eight runs, four earned, in his one and a third innings. He also collected the Raiders’ only hit in the contest.

Harding’s overall record is now 4-13 and 0-6 in the All-American Conference. The Raiders will return to action on Thursday, May 7th when they host the Lakeview Bulldogs at Harding’s Volunteer Field. The game will begin at 5:00 PM.

Boardman Blanks Harding, 12-0

The Warren Harding Raiders’ Varsity Baseball Team’s struggles during their eleven game losing streak have been quite glaring. The pitching has issued too many walks and hit too many batters, the defense has given the opposing offense too many outs and the offense has struggled to string any hits together to score runs. All three issues were evident once again in the Raiders’ 12-0 loss to the Boardman Spartans on Monday at Harding’s Volunteer Field to extend their losing streak to twelve games.

The Boardman offense took advantage of Harding’s eight walks and seven errors to generate their twelve runs on ten hits. The Spartans’ starting pitcher, Tyler Kirlik held the Raiders in check in picking up the shutout win as he carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning.

Marcellus Murillo-Lang took the loss on the hill for the Raiders as he dropped to 0-3 on the season. He allowed ten runs, seven earned, on seven hits. He struck out five and walked eight. Leon Stubbs picked-up the only hit of the night for the Raiders.

The Black and Gold are 4-12 on the season and 0-4 in the All-American Conference. They will conclude their two-game set with the Spartans, in Boardman, on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM, weather permitting.
