Glassy morning waters, gentle breezes, and a deep breath in. 🌊✨
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how Lake Iseo in the summer shares the exact same core essence as our yoga practice: slow living, deep breathing, finding balance, and forming a mindful connection with nature. Far quieter than the bustling shores of Como or Garda, this beautiful lake offers a truly meditative summer rhythm.
It’s a beautiful dance of stillness and flow.
Just as we move from holding a steady pose to flowing through our breath on the mat, a summer day here moves from quiet, barefoot sunrise moments to active, mindful exploration on the water. Instead of rushed sightseeing, the focus shifts to gentle, human-powered movement—cycling the lakeside paths, hiking up to Monte Isola, or simply taking things slow over local wine and food.
For me, it’s also about the local, sun-drenched food straight from the gardens and groves. The other day, a sweet man mowing his lawn saw Mike and I walking along the road near his olives and figs. He stopped and warmly offered us time to pick fresh fruit right from the vine.
In moments like that, the cells in my DNA just know—I am truly home.
Holding those fresh tomatoes in my hands instantly reminded me of my Popper’s garden in Brooklyn, completely overflowing with fruit. It’s funny how a simple piece of fruit can bridge the distance between where we are and where we come from, grounding us completely in the present moment.
August is the perfect season to soften, receive, and just be.
I would love to know: how are you slowing down and finding your own rhythm this August? Drop a comment below and share a piece of your summer stillness with me. 👇🧘♀️
