Here’s some important information about BATH time water safety, shared by Sunshine Water Safety Inc.👇🏻

Don’t forget about bath water safety! We consider all bodies of water when educating our swim families. The bathtub is no exception. *Don’t forget to share this info with ALL caregivers so your children are always in good hands.

B-Be Prepared
Get everything you need ahead of time so you don’t have to leave your little one unattended - not even just for a second!

A- Arms Reach Supervision
Just like in a large body of water situation, you want to be just an arm’s reach away during bath time too. Just two or three inches of water can be enough for a child to slip below the surface and become submerged. This can happen quickly and silently, leaving little time for adults to respond. Also, leave all distractions out of the bathroom so you remain focused on only the child.

T- Temperature Check
Be sure the water temp is not too hot or cold, but just right at a warm temperature BEFORE putting your child in. Keeping their skin and nervous system safe from scalding or freezing temps is crucial. Also, run just enough water for washing and a little play time, but not too much that they can easily become submerged or face down in too much water.

H - Have fun!
We want our little ones to feel safe around the water so creating an environment that is both positive/fun and safe is important too!

Bathing is a part of our daily routines so let’s remember water safety around the bathtub too!

Even during the fall and winter months, water safety doesn't take a day off! 🌊💙

I try my best to keep sharing water safety tips, recommendations, and gentle reminders because you never know who needs to hear it or who is paying attention.

This morning, I received the sweetest message/picture from a swim parent. She mentioned trying out a tip I shared in a recent post about proximity—how sometimes after completing lessons our little swimmers won't always demonstrate a skill directly for us, but with the right positioning and support, they CAN do it. She took that advice, gave it a try and both of her babies floated! 🏊‍♂️✨

Moments like this are exactly why I keep sharing. Water safety is a year-round journey. I will continue posting friendly reminders so you can keep practicing and building confidence with your kiddos, even in the off-season!

How are you keeping up with swim skills this fall? Reach out for refreshers/recommendations! We have great indoor pools for those cold KS months!🩵

In ISR lessons children are taught using sensory motor learning, which is how they learn best. When your child is skilled, but won't swim or float like you'd expect when in a pool outside of lessons, there IS a reason! Often times, it’s due to interference either by something in the pool or someone. When in the water with your child remember to give them plenty of space to actually use their skills (about an arms length away). Also give them time. We NEVER allow our students to be under water longer than 7 seconds, but give them a few seconds to problem solve. Don’t grab them right away. When we don't require them to use their skills, they start to feel they don’t need to.

Have questions, reach out! Refreshers starting soon!🤍
