✨ TEACHER SPOTLIGHT | MISS NATHALIE ✨

Next up in our countdown to Season 31 is Miss Nathalie!

Nathalie has been part of Step By Step since she was just five years old. She grew up dancing in our studios, spent 12 years training in a variety of styles, became a member of the Next Step Dance Company, and later continued dancing while earning her degree in Psychology from UMass Amherst. In 2023, she came full circle and joined us as a teacher. 💙

A few fun things about Miss Nathalie? Her go-to drink is a vanilla sweet cream cold brew with caramel syrup, Michael Jackson's “Love Never Felt So Good” gets her moving, she'd love to travel around Europe, and when she needs to recharge, you'll probably find her with a good book — or taking a nap! The word she thinks her students would use to describe her is kind, and we couldn't agree more.

This season, Nathalie is also stepping into a role that's especially meaningful to me.

After teaching Adult Jazz myself, I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather have step into my shoes and work with my adults. Nathalie brings a fresh approach and a new generation of jazz style to the class while still understanding the foundation she grew up with right here at Step By Step.

And Nathalie, I'm counting on you to throw a little of my old-school jazz in there every now and then. 😂

Next up in our Season 31 Teacher Spotlights is Miss Tracy!

Miss Tracy has been a loyal and valued part of our Step By Step family for years, bringing more than a decade of teaching experience to her students. A graduate of Dean College with a degree in Dance and Performing Arts, Tracy's background spans ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, musical theater and performance — but what I especially appreciate is the creativity, passion and commitment she brings into the classroom.

A few things you may not know about Miss Tracy? She's a Diet Coke girl, recharges by sleeping or swimming in the ocean, has the Redwood Forest on her bucket list, and thinks her students would describe her in one word as “fair.” I think they would agree!

And adults — Miss Tracy isn't just for our younger dancers.

I actually took Tracy's class myself this summer, and it reminded me just how beneficial it is to get back to ballet. The strength, alignment, control, flexibility and attention to technique carry over into so many other forms of movement. I enjoyed it so much that I've decided Monday night ballet needs to become part of my own routine this season.

So if you've been thinking, “I'd love to take ballet, but…” — forget the “but.” This is a beginner adult class. Come move, learn, and do something for yourself.💙💙💙💙

✨ TEACHER SPOTLIGHT | MISS SOPHIA ✨

Next up in our countdown to Season 31 is Miss Sophia!

A Step By Step dancer since the age of five, Sophia grew up in our studio, became a member and captain of the Next Step Dance Company, and went on to earn degrees in Dance and Psychology from UMass Amherst. Today, she brings all of that experience back to the place where it started — sharing her love of dance with the next generation of Step By Step students.

A few things you may not know about Miss Sophia? Her go-to is an iced caramel latte, Beyoncé’s “YA YA” will get her singing and dancing, and she has a goal of someday visiting every Disney park around the world! And the word she thinks her students would use to describe her? Encouraging. We think that's a pretty perfect choice. 💙

And Sophia isn't just teaching our kids this season!

We’re counting down to Season 31 by introducing you to the incredible people who make Step By Step so special!

First up is Miss Shannon! From growing up at Step By Step as a dancer and Next Step Dance Company member to returning home as a teacher, Miss Shannon brings her experience, energy, and love of dance right back into the studio.

WEEK TWO IS IN FULL SWING! 💙

What a week it has already been at NSDC Summer Intensive! Our studios have been filled with incredible energy, hard work, and some very special returning guest teachers.

Tuesday, we welcomed back Miss Brooklyn Toli for Tap — and this one felt a little full-circle. Brooklyn is no stranger to our dance family. She stepped into our studios during COVID to keep our dancers tapping during such an unusual time. Some of the dancers in her classes this week were just tiny dancers the last time she taught them! We absolutely love having Brooklyn back in our space and watching those connections come full circle.

We also welcomed back Miss Carolyne Yochem, who brought her beautiful movement and artistry to our dancers through Lyrical.

Wednesday kept the momentum going with the return of Miss Rachel Buffer and her assistant Shea for Hip Hop — always bringing the ENERGY — along with Miss Wendy O’Bryne, who challenged and inspired our dancers in Contemporary.

And we’re not slowing down yet…

Tonight, Week Two continues! We welcome back Mr. Sean Kelleher for Modern and Miss Mikaila Gnerre for Technique and Heels! 👠

There is something so special about bringing artists back into our studios year after year and watching our dancers grow alongside them. We are incredibly grateful for every guest teacher who shares their time,

We’re still catching up from yesterday because Day 1 of Week Two deserves its own moment!

Next Step Dance Company kicked off the week with two incredible guest teachers bringing two completely different styles to the floor.

📣 Mr. Pat Opran brought the POM energy — and from everything we heard, the energy was THROUGH. THE. ROOF. 🔥 Thank you, Pat, for challenging our dancers, bringing the performance, and starting Week Two on such a high!

✨ Miss Noel D’Amico joined us for Intermediate Contemporary, giving our dancers the opportunity to explore movement, artistry, and a different side of their training.

A huge thank you to both of our guest teachers for sharing your time, talent, and energy with NSDC. 💙

And just like that… Week Two is officially underway.

Back-to-dance shopping just got a little better!

Capezio is offering some great savings for the next 3 DAYS ONLY, so we wanted to make sure our Step By Step families had a chance to take advantage of the offer!

We’ve made some updates to our dress code for the 2026–2027 season, and you can head over to our website now to check out the requirements for your dancer’s classes before you shop.

We’ll be sending families more detailed dress code information soon. In the meantime, if you take advantage of this Capezio offer, please hold onto your receipts and keep tags/packaging on your purchases until you receive those details from us.

Is there a little dancer in your life?

Those first dance classes are about so much more than learning steps.

They’re about walking into the studio a little unsure and discovering, “I can do this!” They’re about making new friends, learning to listen and follow directions, building coordination and confidence — and having so much fun they can’t wait to come back next week.

Our Tiny Tots, Sprouts & Kinderdance classes are designed especially for our youngest dancers, with age-appropriate movement, music, imagination and plenty of encouragement along the way.

No previous dance experience is needed. We’ll meet them right where they are.

Classes begin Saturday, September 12, and online registration for our 2026–2027 season is OPEN!

Know a family with a little one who loves to dance around the house? Please share this post with them! Sometimes finding the right activity starts with a friend saying, “I thought of you when I saw this.”
