The regular season is over, and the Men's Morning and Men's Evening leagues now turn to the playoffs with a Round 1 bracket loaded with storylines.
In the evening, three teams shared medalist honors atop the qualifying leaderboard — Ryan Feltis/Donny Shiminski, Jason Pafundi/Ken Steele, and Pete Lewis/Dan Specht all finished at 19 points — and bracket luck wasted no time creating drama: Pafundi/Steele and Lewis/Specht are matched up against each other right out of the gate in Flight A, guaranteeing one of the three co-medalists won't make it past Round 1.
Feltis/Shiminski opens against Damon Ellinwood/Spencer McDaniel and will be watching that Pafundi-Lewis clash closely — the winner awaits in the final round.
Elsewhere across Flights B and C, The Walls take on Adam Gamage/Jed Weaver, Maddox Tilas/Griffin Bond faces Mike and Reed Prentice, RJ Ochs/John Newell meets Rodney Waltz/Donovan York, and Arthur Poland/Brandon Kelsey squares off with Rob Gardiner/Willy Hornberger.
On the other half of the draw, Flights D through F bring their own tests: Tim and Tucker Stiles open against Josh Hatch/Aaron Bradbury, and the Etheridges draw Cale Benner/Nate Simmons. In Flight E, Ken Seiders/CJ Pendleton takes on Bob Boutelle/Keith Shea, with Ethan and Sullivan Fink facing Clayton Giggey/Herb Sears. Flight F rounds out the bracket with Dickie McKenney/Ben Sawyer against Matt Corson/John Sproul, and Bill Soares/Joe Rose meeting Jake Masters/Michael Melchov.
In the morning, some quality matchups exist up and down the bracket.
In Flight A, Joe Taylor/John Reeves open against Wayne Gilbert/Rob Davidson, while Pete Lewis/Wally Ornsteen take on Brian Wiacek/Blaine Schwabe. Taylor and Reeves are trying to defend their morning league title while Gilbert and Davidson look to return to the winner's circle after several years out of the morning league spotlight. Elsewhere, Lewis and Ornsteen were the darlings of the morning league earlier in the season but became vilified in the press as they lost their grip on the top spot. They'll have to work hard to defeat the upstart team of Wiacek and Schwabe, which knows a thing or two about going low when it counts.
Flight B brings Tim Alley/Darryl Benner against Mark Hurlbut/Brad Hasting, with Doc Barbera/Ron Hiser facing Peter Christine/Peter Bass.
Over in Flight D, Rick Hagen/Ted Silar meet John Swall/Mike Hynes, and Phil Taylor/Barrett Silver square off with Frank Dearnley/Tony Papa. Flight E rounds out the bracket with Tom Curtis/Allen Ikalainen against Jim Cosgrove/Lee Simard, and Scott Craig/Michael Foster taking on Geoff Chick/Charlie Hughes.
Flight C is running on its own track this time — rather than a single-elimination bracket, those teams play this week and next, with Rob McCreary/Tom Volpe and Chuck Plummer/Peter Davidson squaring off.
