This is our Adult Exercise Class!(we are missing a few in the picture)
💥Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays 8:15am-9:00am.
I hope you have enjoyed learning about this amazing group! Since they were so good about sharing, I was told it was my turn 😬
I started teaching classes at MSM in 2017. Outside the gym, I love spending time with my family and have been busy taking care of my mid-life crisis (two miniature dachshunds🥴).
I was active with sports in high school and college and love being active!
I stay motivated by reminding myself that I don’t HAVE to exercise, but I GET to exercise.
Fun fact: I am an Army brat ❤️, so I was a world traveler before I entered junior high. (I would LOVE to go back to Germany someday).

ADULT EXERCISE SPOTLIGHT:

🎨 Janis joined class because some of her friends were going and they really enjoyed class.
“I have back issues and wanted to stay (get more) flexible and improve balance. Away from the gym, I love to spend time with family. Being Nana is one of my favorite things (we do Nana adventures). Spending time with Bill and our adult children is wonderful. I enjoy gardening and having coffee time with friends.”
Some accomplishments since joining the gym have been improved balance and flexibility. Improved fitness has helped Janis feel more secure in what she can do.
On days when Janis doesn’t feel like exercising, she motivates herself by thinking about how good she’ll feel when she’s done and the great conversations with all her friends in class.
Her advice to someone just starting their fitness journey would be “just do it! Sometimes it’s not easy, but keep going. It does get easier. Don’t push too much and do what you can at the place you start. It will become easier!”
Fun fact: “ I enjoy painting, but don’t get to do it often. Also, Kim Brokaw has known me since I was born and we still do things together with her sister Karen”

🐴 Karen (photo not available) has been attending class for several months. She originally joined to help with continuing therapy from aortic heart valve surgery.
Outside the gym, Karen likes to garden, visit with family, and sew baby blankets for donations.
Improved fitness has helped keep Karen more flexible.
She helps motivate herself because she wants to keep her joints moving and be able to do as much as possible!
Advice to someone starting their fitness journey,” Try it out, it’s great!”
Fun fact: “I love horses and had my own and did a lot of riding through high school.”

ADULT EXERCISE CLASS SPOTLIGHT:

💃 Barb has been a part of adult exercise class for a little over three years.
“ I have always loved to move and this class has given me the opportunity to be able to keep moving! It helped get me in shape to also take Zumba classes. Thanks to Judy Glasser for encouraging me to join and to Amanda and my classmates for keeping it fun (the key to sticking with it). Fun fact people might not know- in the 90s, I had the opportunity to choreograph a show at the Motown Cafe in Las Vegas.”

🐶 Scott has been attending class for a little over two years.
“ I started after major surgery. Exercise makes me feel better. Habit keeps me exercising when I don’t feel like it -just get up and go! Don’t think about it! A fun fact that everyone already knows is that I love dogs.”

ADULT EXERCISE CLASS SPOTLIGHT:

🏃🏼‍♀️ Linda started exercise class with Cari when Main Street Motivation first opened. She became involved with the gym to stay active.
Outside the gym, Linda enjoys being with family, friends, and doing activities. Fitness impacts her daily life because it makes her feel like she is doing something good for her body.
Linda doesn’t have a hard time staying motivated. She doesn’t like to miss class. Advice that Linda would give to others starting their fitness journey would be that you will feel better and have more energy!

🏍️ Darlene joined class because she was invited by Ronna. Outside the gym, Darlene’s family is very important to her. Improved fitness has impacted her daily life by being able to stay active.
Darlene stays motivated on days when she doesn’t feel like exercising by mowing, walking, and doing activities with her grandkids. Darlene’s advice to others starting a fitness journey,” Move more… move anything!”
Fun Fact: “I like to cook when I have time. Glen and I enjoy motorcycle and convertible riding. We started dating during Covid, so nobody knew! People didn’t see us out together for months, so it was a good time to learn about each other with no pressure” (We celebrated our two year Anniversary on June 1st)

ADULT EXERCISE CLASS SPOTLIGHT:

🪻 Nita joined class because Linda Carr told her about it. Nita likes to volunteer and work in her yard when the weather permits.
Since joining the gym, Nita has noticed that her balance is better. On days when Nita doesn’t feel like exercising, she makes herself get up and move because it feels good!
The advice Nita would give to someone starting their fitness journey it to keep at it!
Fun fact: Nita met her husband Merle on a blind date 49 years ago!!

💕 Kim originally came to the gym because she retired from working as a Physical Therapy Assistant, and just like anyone else, she needed motivation to exercise.
Kim is married and has 4 adult daughters and 4 grandchildren. She enjoys music, traveling to see family, time in Galena, Bible Study, breakfast with girlfriends, and going to the library.
Kim’s biggest accomplishment since joining the gym is being able to increase the weight that she uses for exercises.
Kim’s advice to anyone starting their fitness journey is to 1)find a consistent day and time that will work for you and commit to it on your calendar. 2) Exercise with a FUN GROUP. It makes exercise time enjoyable and interesting. 3) Ask for help with exercises or machines if needed and don’t compare yourself with anyone else. Everyone’s fitness journey is unique.
Fun facts:”I grew up on a farm outside Buda, and Janis McDonald and I have known each other since we were babies! I enjoyed living in an English village, that had a castle, in my early 20’s. I went back to college in my late 40’s, which included examining the cadavers, human hearts, brains, dissecting a pig, and observing a hip and knee replacement surgeries. All fascinating and amazing reminders that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God.”

ADULT EXERCISE CLASS SPOTLIGHT:

🎓 Bob joined the class because his wife (Judy) was attending the class, and encouraged him to join. He is glad that he joined also.
Bob retired in 1993 from teaching at Walnut High School. He taught there for 32 years. His most active activity now is serving as the vice-president of the Walnut Historical Society. He really enjoys historical research and reading about American history and government.
Since joining the gym, Bob’s range of motion and strength have significantly improved.
Fun fact: “I was a member of a theatrical fraternity (The Black Friars) in college at Illinois State. (Judy’s comment- “In one production I’ve heard he wore a pink tutu.” Bob’s comment-“that was one of our groups’ annual satirical r***e of campus life ”

🎹 Judy originally came to the gym because one of her friends suggested that she should come with her. She felt it was beneficial to her needs as a senior citizen.
Outside of the gym, Judy keeps up with housekeeping chores that need attention, going up and down the stairs, carrying laundry baskets, stretching, or reaching for items on high shelves, bending over to find frozen foods in the basket near the bottom of the freezer or sitting tall at her computer. She likes having muffins available when Mary or Debbie stop by for coffee. She also enjoys doing puzzles and sitting down at the piano for her own (and Bob’s) enjoyment.
Judy intends to be a volunteer for the Bureau County genealogical Society to help with filling in information about Walnut area residence missing records for the society’s files.
Judy says she knows that her and Bob both need the exercise class to keep their bodies healthy and moving and they do feel better (but tired )after class. Many people lead a sedentary life after retirement - they want to avoid that! They want to stay mobile and enjoy traveling being with Bob’s children in Texas and Arizona.
Fun fact: Judy tries to mow her yard after seeing her neighbor (Nita) across the street has mowed. Nita doesn’t know that Judy sees her as her competitor! Judy has an area in her front yard where Debbie has been planting new prairie plants. She is looking forward to the beautiful blooms all summer long.

ADULT EXERCISE CLASS SPOTLIGHT:

🌺 Diane loves walking (preferably outside) and does this at least 5 days a week. She enjoys yard work, flower gardening, and getting together with family and friends.
Improved fitness has helped Diane lose weight, have more energy, clear her thoughts, and help with balance.
On days when Diane doesn’t feel motivated, she looks to friends like Linda Carr (who keeps walking and keeps fitness a priority for many years). She also looks up to friends like Gwen, Bob, and Judy who come to class and don’t quit.
Advice Diane would give to someone just starting their fitness journey: Don’t stop!! Keep going!! Don’t complicate it! Just do it!
Fun Fact: “I have lost over 70lbs. It has been a slow process for me, using portion control and walking, but worth it! Senior sneakers is so much more than strength and balance work! We have so much fun! We have a “family of friends “ that love being together! I was born and raised in Colorado, but proud to call Walnut my home for 48 years!”

📚 Gwen originally came to the gym because Bob and Judy were standing by the door and invited her in. She was having a problem turning left with her right arm. She thought she must do something!
Gwen is retired so she can say “no.” Her favorite activity is to sit in her chair with a good book.
Improved fitness has helped Gwen with movement and stability.
On days when Gwen doesn’t feel like exercising, she is motivated by visualizing herself in a wheelchair!
Advice Gwen would give to someone starting their fitness journey: Just do it! It’s fun and you meet new friends!
Fun fact about Gwen that people don’t know: “ I don’t like to exercise”
