Quarantine is one of the most important — and often most overlooked — parts of horse care.
Just because you own a barn doesn't mean you can properly quarantine a horse.
True quarantine is much more than putting a horse in an empty stall. It requires separate housing, separate equipment, strict cleaning and disinfecting protocols, daily temperature checks, monitoring for signs of illness, and a commitment to preventing the spread of disease to every other horse on the property.
Many people underestimate the amount of work involved. Not everyone has the space, setup, knowledge, or ability to properly separate horses while maintaining effective biosecurity. A single mistake can put an entire barn at risk.
At Silent Gift Farm, we take quarantine seriously. We understand that horses coming from auctions, kill pens, livestock sales, rescues, and other high-stress situations need time to decompress while being carefully monitored. Quarantine isn't easy work—it takes dedication, consistency, and experience every single day.
The goal isn't just isolation. The goal is protecting horses, preventing disease, and giving each horse the safest possible start.
