It’s not just your glutes that take a hit. Hip IR plays a big role in how your pelvis moves, core functions and lower back feels. Without enough of it, your knees, low back, pelvis and/or feet will end up compensating and causing all sorts of pesky stuff like:

🦴”Butt wink” (low back tucking) during squats
🦴SI joint discomfort
🦴Pelvic floor dysfunction
🦴Pinchy hips
🦴Back pain during deadlifts and squats
🦴Poor single leg balance
🦴Hips shifting at the bottom of squats
🦴Limited stride length + power while running
🦴Trouble sitting cross legged or getting low in squats

Yikes 🥴

But don’t stress, ☝🏼these are a few of my favorite movements to help restore mobility and train the hips to move with control better than stretching alone.

Tossing a few of them into your routine will not only help you in the gym but can also help offset the effects of long periods of sitting 👊🏼

**And don’t let the fancy terms intimidate you, hip IR simply describes when the femur (thigh bone) rotates inward. Hold your leg out straight in front of you and turn it so your knees goes inward - thats IR 🙂

Struggle to really feel your glutes during deadlifts or kettlebell swings? Or feeling it all in your lower back instead? 😅

The fix might actually be in your feet and knees.

If your knees are caving in or just passively hanging out during your setup, your hips and glutes aren’t in the most optimal position to get the most out of your lift.

👇🏼 Try this:

As you set up, keep your feet planted and rotate your kneecaps outward. Then think about “spreading” the floor” or creating outward tension by pushing your feet away from each other without actually moving them.

That’s it.

🔥 You should feel your glutes fire up almost immediately, and as a bonus, you might notice your arches lift too.

This isn’t just a glute hack though. Creating that lower body tension gives you a more stable base to pull from, which means better performance AND less stress on your joints over time. Win-win!

Try it on your next deadlift and let me know if you feel the difference 👇🏼👇🏼

Imagine if you were going to try and push a wall over (for whatever reason 🤷🏻‍♀️), would you approach it with your elbows up and out straight or tucked in towards your sides?

Probably to your sides, right? Because that’s where you’re your strongest 🙂

No matter what kind of horizontal press you’re performing - dumbbell presses, push ups, bench or floor presses, think “ARROWS” not “Ts” when it comes to the angle of your elbows from your torso.

Keeping your elbows in around 45ish degrees to your torso:

✅ Gives you a more stable foundation to press from
✅ Keeps your shoulders happy
✅ Provides you with the best leverage to move weight 💪🏼

Hope this helps! 👊🏼
