Week 1 of 90:/5 Fall Season begins today -- or a different day of the week depending on where you’re located in one of the 161 cities around the world. We’ve got hundreds of new people both new to the League and, many new to competitive disc do***ng.
If you’re new to League you’re going to find that playing as a Club is a different dynamic than when you compete as an individual – everyone on the Club cheers for each other, helps each other, and depends on each other. Don’t miss a League night if you can help it, be on time as best you can, and don’t be afraid to pitch in and help in any set-up, judging or teardown, if needed.
Regardless of where you play, there are some universal rules and etiquette specific to the Disc Dog World and generic ones when you play as a member of a sports Club:
1. Let your Captain know if you’re going to be late or you can’t make it so they’re not wondering or surprised.
2. Keep your dog secured if it’s not playing – either on a leash, in a crate or in your vehicle. Nothing is worse than ruining someone’s good round when your dog runs on to the field. Ok, a dogfight is worse. Don’t do that.
3. Even if on a leash, don't let your dog walk up to anyone else’s high-drive, Frisbee crazy, amped up dog. Keep a respectful distance always.
4. Write your name on your discs with a permanent marker so you don't lose any and you don’t go home with more than what you had.
5. Don’t throw discs near the competition field when another dog is playing. It can be distracting, and discs can get away from you.
6. If a dog loses a disc during a round, only their handler is allowed to run and retrieve the disc. You can point and call the dog, but don't touch someone else's disc during their round.
7. If you’re judging, call them like you see them. When in doubt, give the call to the Team.
8. Be ready to go when it’s your turn.
9. Be a good sport, always.
10. Pick up your p**p.
League is laid back. It’s meant to be a fun time with you, your dogs and your fellow disc doggers.
Toss well, have fun and good luck.
