Season recap
This season we finished up with 31 All Conference Athletes across both teams, along with sweeping the Conference titles. We also had one All State Athlete - Jon Boggess, who is your 4A Shot Put Champion, and All State in Discus. He broke the school record in both.
The freshman and senior classes are special, as every coach has a fondness for their first group of 7th graders, and their first group of sophomores - those that after three years, should be a testament to the culture they want to instill.
Thank you all for the amazing three years we have had with Waldron track. We have had 93 ALL Conference Athletes (not events, individual athletes). We have had 33 State Medalists. We have gone 6/6 for Conference Championships, which hasn't been achieved in any Jr./Sr. sport combo since 2005-2008. Junior high boys had one conference title prior to these last three seasons. And this year's junior high track team is unmatched in records broken and showed they can compete with anyone in the state.
We were 1.5 points away from winning indoor in 3 years ago, 4A Indoor Champion last season, and I have no doubts we could have defended our title this season.
We finished 4th place in outdoor 2x - the highest 4A finish in school history.
3/4 Junior high relay school records are held by the groups from the last three seasons. We have 2nd place in the other.
3/4 Senior high relay records are from the past three seasons. The 4x400 has broken the previous school record all three years. Our 4x100 finished 2nd and 3rd in school history these last two seasons.
Of the 17 junior high school records, you guys broke 10. You are 2nd place in 7 events.
Of the 14 indoor records, you guys broke 7.
Of the 18 outdoor records, you guys broke 6.
In three years, 23/49 school records are now held by you guys.
14 athletes offered collegiate track scholarships.
6 Athletes selected to the Meet of Champions - and all (so far) have placed top 5 in the ENTIRE state.
Thank you to all the support staff and behind the scenes individuals. Thank you to the bus barn crew that keeps our buses fueled and fixed. Thank you parents and grandparents and all of you who drive these kids all over, wash clothes, bring food for the athletes, and sit through track's glorious weather change, from freezing cold to burning hot.
Thank you to Coaches Angie Bailey, Bailey Moore, and Erica Richardson for the help and work these past three seasons. They have been a joy and a blast.
Thank you to Coaches Dillon Ward, Beau Sikes, and Victor Shores. You three have made up the best coaching staff I have had, and made my job infinitely easier.
Thank you athletes of the past three seasons for all the work and effort you have put in. Thank you for hitting on the goals we set forth.
1. Be a class act
2. Earn respect
3. Develop athletes to their highest potential
4. Be physically and mentally prepared
5. Break personal records each week
I look forward to seeing our Waldron track athletes carry this success into other sports in this upcoming school year, and these seniors to take the character and class they have demonstrated these past three seasons into bettering whatever community they end up in.
To my athletes: I love you all and how wonderful you've been to me and my family. The Hutson's have been blessed by these last three seasons. Thank you.
