Quannapowitt Yacht Club

Quannapowitt Yacht Club Quannapowitt is the oldest inland boat club in America, founded in 1880. Take exit 39 south off Rt. 128 to Wakefield. See fleet listings for more information.

We are a family oriented boat club whose mission is to keep sailing costs low and enjoyable. The Quannapowitt Yacht Club (QYC) in Wakefield has available membership openings for sailors and those interested in learning. We’re located at the end of Linda Road, the flashing light on North Avenue. We have a modern club house, plenty of space on our rigging docks, a large safe anchorage, club sailboat

s, dinghies and a canoe for you to use. Lake Quannapowitt is a great size lake to learn to sail on and a big enough venue for regional regattas. We get a refreshing cool lake breeze many afternoons during the summer. You can always find members relaxing on one of our lakeside decks enjoying the view, or enjoying a game of ping pong inside the clubhouse! QYC has races for mixed fleets on Wednesdays and Sundays and occasional regattas, starting in May and continuing through October. The racing is competitive, but fun with lots of room for beginners to learn and experienced racers to sharpen their skills. Our racing skippers range in age from 15 to 80. QYC sanctioned fleets are the Laser, Daysailer, Flying Scot, Cape Cod Mercury, and 420s with a small fleet of mixed types. Our fleets are relatively inexpensive and usually race “one-design.” Power boats owned by QYC provide a platform for running sailing activities and for “rescue” should you capsize. The club owns Lasers, Cape Cod Mercurys, Daysailers and 420’s for use by qualified members. In addition, Optimist dinghies are available for qualified children sailors. In addition to sailing memberships, QYC also offers paddle memberships for canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.

A big thank you to our fantastic Youth Sailing instructors and Camp Director (not pictured) for another successful summer! The QYC Youth Sailing Program welcomed 51 campers this season, including many returning sailors as well as a number of newcomers. Our instructors did an outstanding job accommodating a wide range of ages and skill levels, ensuring that every camper had a fun and rewarding experience.

The kids loved spending their days out on the water, as well as participating in the land-based games and activities. We also extend a special thank you to Lauren Stetson for leading the pre-camp orientation sessions, which helped prepare our staff for a great summer on the water.
