Uechi-Ryu Mushin

Uechi-Ryu Mushin Uechi-Ryu is a traditional Okinawan karate style emphasizing powerful, circular movements and close-quarter techniques.

It blends hard and soft elements, with a focus on strong stances, fast strikes, and defense against multiple opponents. Head Sensei: Shihan Kevin Linehan, Godan (5th degree)

Kevin has been training Uechi-Ryu Karate since he was 7yo, starting in Brockton and continuing to train with some of the best of the best that the Uechi-Ryu community has to offer. He currently holds a 5th Degree Blackbelt th

rough Uechi-Ryu International Karate Association and is passionate on teaching this effective style of self-defense to everyone that is interested. Kevin also holds a purple-belt in jiujitsu through Travis Stevens and will often blend Uechi and jiu-jitsu together is provide self-defense skills both standing and on the ground.

What a great night! An amazingly great night!

We got to celebrate the following:

Sensei Rico earning his 9th degree, with the title of Hanshi! This is an amazing accomplishment that many practitioners will never see. This takes years of patience, dedication, and training!

Katie earned her Yonkyu—Brown Bar! This is a huge promotion and is a testament to the hard work and dedication she has been putting in!

Freddy earned his Gokyu—one brown stripe!. He has also shown a ton of dedication, patience, and eagerness to learn!

Mo earned the rank of Kyukyu tonight!! We have had to put this off as Mo picked up the curriculum, at least the beginning stages, REALLY fast!! Mo has been a wonderful addition to the dojo!

And finally, Riley. Riley has been a special guest and wonderful addition to the dojo this summer! She was awarded a special patch that ties this dojo to the former Uechi-Ryu Mushin that existed in Wells, ME that was run by my godfather!

Finally, we celebrated being the 2026 Uechi-Ryu International Karate Association New Dojo of the Year!

2026 New Dojo of the Year! Truly honored to have received this and a Massachusetts Citation as well—that was a huge surprise. Thank you, Uechi-Ryu International Karate Association for this award.

Although my name is on it, this award really is all in part to the students that come in and train. Without them there is no dojo, no teaching, no training, no connection, and no laughter. Thank you, all of you, for your part in Uechi-Ryu Mushin! We only exist because of you all!!

It was an honor watching these five gentlemen test for their respective ranks—all of whom passed! Years of hard work and dedication were evident in each of their katas. Congratulations to each one of you on a job well done! Testing in front of a board is not an easy thing at any rank or age, especially in a room this small and with all of those eyes on you!
