When you take the DIY approach to burnout recovery, here’s what usually happens:
A) You try every solution in the book and start to feel like self-care is another job that you’re failing at.
b) You inadvertently focus on solving the wrong problem.
Example: many women perceive sinking productivity or a lack of work-life balance as technical problems requiring more effective time management or organization, rather than symptoms of a broader and deeper problem: burnout, extreme energy depletion, and nervous system dysregulation.
c) You cobble together piecemeal solutions- a yoga class here, a retreat there.
Kind of like you’re throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks, instead of addressing burnout with a holistic approach that accounts for the mind-body-spirit problem it really is.
Bottom line: most people cannot overcome burnout on their own. Healing requires support and human connection.
