Big thanks to everyone who has liked the page! I wanted to post about an upcoming name change to Christian Joy Coach. Currently my page title says Christian Mental Health Coach, but as I’ve been digging deeper into specific counseling methods CBT, ACT, DBT and becoming even more fully committed to the BioPsychoSocial approach for holistic healing — and while I love these evidence-based therapy methods the bottom line is, I’m not a therapist or a counselor. Sure I could pursue my license, but to remain a mindset maverick that is out to radically transform the way boys and young men approach life, this is unlikely.
Therapy, counseling and mental health usually refer to licenses, certifications, clinical hours, restrictions, insurance and a host of other things I simply do not have to deal with. I have decided not to have a board of professionals tell me I cannot empower young men the way I want to, and potentially saying I have:
Too much Bible.
Too much accountability.
Too much friendship.
Too much walking side by side.
Too much Christ-centered joy.
What I do is simply more hands-on than a one hour meeting once a week. That’s what I needed when I was stuck in anxiety, depression and overwhelm. I am a coach, mentor, brother, friend and disciple-making follower of Jesus.
The new name reflects what I’m all about and what gets me out of bed in the morning, building joyful, resilient men for the glory of God. A superior joy that overcomes depression, overpowers anxiety, and outlasts overwhelm.
By focusing on joy and using clinically proven techniques, I’m able to come alongside young men and help them unleash their greatness so they can outlove those that don’t believe in them, prove right the people that care about them, discover and celebrate their unique gifts // talents // strengths & interests, and worship the God who loves them more than they can ever imagine.
