Eskrima is known for its skillful use of blade and impact weapons. Special Forces around the world use Eskrima because of its effectiveness in blade, impact, and empty hand combat. What makes the Filipino Martial Arts unique is that “the stick trains the hand.” The Filipino Martial Arts begins with weapons training, which teaches empty hand combat. The Hawaii Defense Academy adopts the principle of “the stick trains the hands” to teach both weapons and empty hand self-defense simultaneously.
