Ms. Caitlin's Ballet 1 students recently transitioned to training with the barre! This is a huge milestone and accomplishment for young dancers. Building the discipline, focus, and work ethic to begin barre work is no easy feat for these tiny ballerinas. They know they have worked hard to earn this privilege and they treat it accordingly! 👏👏👏

Ballet Hawaii's Ballet 4 students are 9 to 11 years old and attend class 3x per week. They spent the last year in Ballet 3 learning the proper anatomical placement of the body and reinforcing good movement patterns that have prepared them for the more rigorous training they are now receiving in Ballet 4. This year, they will work to refine their technique while learning more challenging skills and more complicated combinations of movement. But what are they most excited about?
This week these dancers have embarked on a formal pre-pointe training program that will prepare them for the challenge of pointe work in the next few years!

Happy Sunday Bun-Day to all you ballet lovers! This is one of our lovely Ballet 2 students, Arielle, and she happens to have a pretty perfect ballet bun. It's an important rule to come to ballet class with a neatly secure bun, but do you know why?

🩰 Less Distraction
Young dancers tend to be distracted by longer hair. It can get in their eyes and make it difficult to pay attention to the teacher. Even if it's pulled back in a ponytail, young children will often play with their hair. A bun helps younger dancers to focus on the teacher's instruction and on their own dancing. For older dancers, a secure bun allows them to focus on ballet technique without having to readjust their hair after each combination.

🩰 Uniformity
One thing that makes ballet so special is the discipline. Part of that comes from each dancer dressing in the same “uniform”, and that includes having your hair in a ballet bun.

🩰 It helps the teacher
A ballet teacher's job is to assist every dancer in improving their technique. Styling the hair off of the face and neck allows teachers to correct placement issues of the shoulders, elbows, or head. Having uniformity makes it easier for the teacher to spot these corrections and even prevent injuries that occur due to incorrect form.
