Aloha Highlight ‘Ohana!
Its’ been very wild past two weeks, and though I have been in communication with most of you, I wanted to give you all a solid update on recent league happenings:
QUARANTINES, RESCHEDULES and CERTIFICATIONS
Quarantines have cancelled several team certifications, and rescheduled the pre-season games several times this past week. Ultimately we were able to schedule a limited set of pre-season games for this weekend. First, MAHALO to those who responsibly reported the quarantine situations as soon as they were known. Understand — there is no convenient time to report a positive test or a quarantine situation. Therefore, please don’t sit on that information because that only makes the situation bigger. We are committed to working through this covid pitfalls, but it requires EVERYONE”S transparency and urgency with reporting.
NEW GOVERNMENT ORDERS
Highlight YFL is considered “organized sports”. Nothing new has come out specifically regarding organized sports, so please stay status quo for now.
However, your families or any spectators coming to watch the organized sports are considered outdoor gatherings, meaning they must abide by the outdoor restrictions which limits them to 25 people. Again the situation is fluid, and we will keep you posted as new information arises. (We will be using these upcoming pre-season games to test our venue management as a league.)
REGULAR SEASON START DATE *UPDATED*
We will be pushing official the season start date back to Saturday 9/11 for the following reasons:
1) the recent surge of quarantines have pushed several teams up to ten (10) days behind schedule in preparation and certifications,
2) some teams equipment orders still have yet to arrive, and
3) due to recent changes to the ILH schedules, our officials have recommended pushing our official start back to 9/11. (That pretty much made it a no-brainer)
PRE-SEASON GAMES - 9/4
That said…..we will be looking to schedule next weeks games for Saturday 9/4 in the upcoming days. Understand, we have limited officials next week so we may not be able to get all available teams a game this weekend. We will be confirming who is ready (equipped) before scheduling. You are also free an encouraged to set up scrimmages as well.
CERTIFICATIONS
Certification dates are still being scheduled and rescheduled as we speak.
