Schaper Hawaii

Schaper Hawaii Stop by and check us out...your dream board is waiting for you. Choose from Schaper's, Lost, NSP, Southpoint, SUPs & board accessories. Everything surf.

Located on the North Shore of Oahu Hawaii, Schaper Hawaii is best known for our custom precision surfboards for every surfer. With over 200 boards in stock, you'll have your choice of Schaper, LOST, Southpoint, or a variety stand up paddle boards. Do you need any board accessories? We've got you covered. Schaper Hawaii has recently undergone renovations and improvements. The previously warehouse-esque, humble shop located in the Old Waialua Sugar Mill has been supplemented by a new showroom fit to stand side-by-side with an art gallery. The new shop features more retail accessories (fins, leashes, board bags, sunscreen, wax, etc), an extensive and well-stocked showroom showcasing local products and art, windows to peek into the crafting processes, and a comfortable couch to enjoy while you take it all in. While we pride ourselves on the new space we’ve created, we assure you that the raw, foam-to-product aspect of the old shop is still intact and accessible. We invite you to visit, explore, discuss, and enjoy our new and improved shop and get a board made just for you.

To simplify, the Sugar Rush is a step-up without the length. It does a great job of getting you into the wave early without having a lot of length out in front of you. Mid-point forward it feels almost like a little fun board, but from mid-point back it’s all high speed performance.

Opposite the mullet, the Sugar Rush is all “party in the front, business in the back”. And like the mullet, the Sugar Rush is a timeless style that truly transcends trends.

Carl started his shaping operation at the Waialua Sugar Mill in 2011 where it is now, but before that he made his boards at his home in Pupukea.

Without a showroom, Carl relied on shops like Surf N Sea in Haleiwa to carry and sell his boards. To this day we are grateful for the support of Joe Green (owner), Eddie (General Manager), and the awesome staff that run the shop like a well-oiled machine who’ve sold thousands of Schaper boards.

Since the 60’s, Surf N Sea has been providing locals and tourists products and services for surf and ocean adventures.

Built in 1921, the iconic yellow-and-brown structure that houses the shop, “is one of the oldest commercial structures in the area and is recognized as a historic building by the Hawaii Register of Historic Places.”

Stop by their shop for a huge selection of surf-kine things (including Schaper boards and much more) or visit their website (surfnsea.com) to read about this historic place.

Rahkdy Jichaku is a young man with a timeless love for the ocean—specifically for its big waves and the simplified but intimate sense of being with nature.

“I love big waves because I feel like there are less distractions and it’s just you and the ocean’s power. And you’re in the moment,” he said.

Rahkdy’s goal is to get on bigger waves at Phantoms. In the meantime, he has been testing the waters on his 8’10” x 19.5 “ x 3 5/8” gun shaped by Carl, glassed by Matt, and sanded by Charlie.

“I love this board so much,” Rahkdy, who’s ridden the board at maxing Sunset, 15-ft Waimea, and Phantoms.

“I like that it’s very fast, responsive, and feels planted,”
he said. “I know it’s gonna work well every time I go out. It paddles fast, and the glass on fins works really smooth.”

When asked who inspires him, Rahkdy said his dad does.

“He still goes out to surf with me even when he’s busy.”

You keep us busy but we will happily build you a custom wave craft that will inspired you to carpe diem! Give us a call and let’s get your quiver ready! 🌈⚡️🌊🤙🏾

Glass/Resin artist, Matt (Matt fregeau) must have drawn inspiration from nature with this stunner of a board. But in addition to that, the rich, three-dimensional depth of the board’s resin art was part intentional with a touch of a happy “accident”.

Like in nature, mistakes do happen but not all turn out rad as heck like this one ✨⚡️🔥

Give us a holler to see this and a few other unique beauties in person.

No other kind of human exists that lives for independence days AND fights for this freedom to choose right or left than a surfer.

So, for the surfer whose worked 5 years straight & surfed just a handful of times while they builds a house, a business, a home so that their kids could drop in on them one day with so much stoke & no worries—you are a freedom fighter.

For the surfer who works hard on random low-paying jobs, works nights, & live the most frugal life so that they can surf when the swell hits & not the day after—you are the American Idol.

For the surfer who works that 9 to 5 & still get an hour worth of surf before or after—you’re the beacon of what is possible if you commit.

The surfer who tells all sorts of white lies, fakes injuries, & have a rolodex (or Notes list) of emergency scenarios so that they can get out of dates or family dinners—we do not condone your behavior but your creativity is almost admirable.

Finally, the surfer with the most understanding of the future—the surfer who never makes any appointment without both their calendar and the Surfline apps—you are a genius of Nostradamus-level. Your dedication to foresight is to strive for.

Surfers of all races, gender, age, or economic status—we salute you for the work you do to protect your right to surf and feel free.

Happy independence day today and everyday 🌊

(All photos, except the last one, were taken by the talented & elegant surfer Mike Carrol who goes to bed by 7pm, wakes up at 2am to fulfill his job as owner/operator of Carrol’s Cleaning—a commercial office cleaning company he started in 1976. It’s a dirty business but someone’s gotta do it, especially if it affords a lifestyle of being the first in the line-up on a daily basis. The freedom to surf is not free, but the work is always worth it as you can see on the last pic taken by Neal Miyake of Mike Carrol).

Grateful to all the fathers and father figures here with us and beyond who’ve helped raise stellar humans to be strong-willed and kind.

Special thanks to surfer dads for not forcing their uninterested kids to surf and for not refusing to take their kids to soccer, football, gymnastics, or band practice, without complaining.

Thank you for your sacrifice and unwavering support 😉👏🏾🌊.
