What is optimal? Optimal mechanics/foot strike/posture ect….
Let’s talk optimal foot strike in regards to track & field..
What we know to be true:
Striking on Toes: smaller surface area, more pounds per square inch needed to overcome
Whole foot strike: Larger surface area, more easily disperses force
Plantar flexion: more calf/quad
Dorsiflexion: tib/hammy
Neutral: contract agonist + antagonist more simultaneously.
Ankle is strongest in neutral.
Base off of what we know to be true, optimal would be a neutral foot strike in regards to T&F.
With that known, do we take the four football athletes pictured,(max velos from top L to bottom R, 18.76/21.98/20.45/20.65) and try and make their foot strikes “more optimal” ?
If so, how and why?
