Handlebar Hooligans - Wadena, MN Life is Better Behind Handlebars Our group is all about sharing time and experiences with others.

What started out as a place for a few close friends to hang out in my shop instead of in public at a bar has turned into a variety of "members" riding motorcycles and snowmobiles every Wednesday when possible. I am just the ringleader and planner that started this group. .:: JiM

03.20.2026. RIDE ONE! Zero miles on the odometer. 57 degrees, sun and no wind. The new Janus Motorcycles made it out of my office on the carpet and onto the blacktop. Quick ride to fill it with gas and then to Drastic Measures for fish. What a different ride experience than the big Indian motorcycle. Short mileage motorcycle for sure but very comfortable. That's exactly what I wanted. I even bought a leather covered helmet with goggles for the experience. Just that quick 4 mile round trip cheered me up. The sunshine doesn't hurt either.

9.27.25..... day 2 of the ride and rally. We took one of the 4 guided rides today and picked a good one. We ate at the trestle inn and they handled the 32 wheelers in our group and about 20 others that were there. After we ate I made the decision to take off on our own. A great decision. The images below show the guided ride and the map at the end of those and then our own ride with the tracking map I took. 30 miles on the guided ride and then 60 on my ride with just us. 99.6 miles total today. Loading up in the am and heading home. Captions under photos and a few videos in the comments. UPDATE... We took the sxs back to silver bay for supper. Zoes pizza. Excellent. On the way back in the dark I decided to take the trail instead of the county blacktops. Just so happened about 5 miles out of town I had to pass a sxs on the trail. I could see he had a front tie rod broken And was limping along at 5 mph. We stopped and asked if he needed help as he was a lone sxs. He was so thankful. He said he had an accident with another guy that came around the corner and hit him. They stopped but didn't help him find a trailer or something. I told him we would get back to our truck and trailer and come back and get him by loading his broken machine on my trailer and take him where he needed. He was dumbfounded. We were about 12 miles from our truck. Got back to the Airbnb and the truck and dad and I went back and loaded him up. It turned out he was camping alone just 1.5 miles from us. Lots of things worked out and lined up. I can't believe other people just left him. His quote to us numerous times was "you are good people. "

9.26.25.... mn ATV annual ride. About a 45 mile guided ride today. Rumors were 273 units today. The trails here are very rocky. Quite a bit of color change in the leaves as well. We had lunch at the silver bay community center with prepared shredded beef, chips and cupcakes. We got back to our Airbnb and went to supper on our own at the four seasons bar and restaurant just a mile from our Airbnb house. Wonderful food and service. They also had live music.

9.14.25.... Been awhile. Too busy to ride motorcycle but Sunday was beautiful and we had to go. Brad, Laurel, Doug, Pat, Jim, LouAnn and Jay and Cheryl so a bit. Started at 11am cloud and humid and ended at 84 degrees and sunny. Sauce'd North of cormorant. Ton of road construction still out there so I did have a few turnarounds but it all worked out. Minimal color change. Ice cream in frazee at mamas. Great day with peeps.

07.09.25... last day of our motorcycle trip. Last night there was forecasts showing heavy rain and some storms. We woke up in the middle of the night to heavy rain, thunder and lightning. At 4am I was having some back spasms and also a gallbladder attack. Not good. As I watched the weather radar on my phone I decided that since we only had 200 miles back to the trucks that we could wait out the storms. Thankfully our hotel the aqua aire in minoqua had a commons area seating, chairs and a table as well as a full kitchen. We all checked out of our rooms by noon and sat in the commons discussing our options. The first image below shows the radar at 4am. I will ride in rain but not heavy rain and lightning. We have to ride west and south to get back to Hudson Wisconsin. We ordered pizza to be delivered by Domino's and talked. We also watched the massive amount of traffic going by. I made the decision to leave at 3pm no matter what because we needed to beat darkness in our return to the trucks. We geared up and left at 3pm in full rain gear. Thankfully it wasn't raining anymore but the road spray and wet roads keeps you paying attention. About 60 miles from the start I stopped and most of us took off the rain gear. The rest of the day was great. No rain and cooler temps. We had a decent meal in clear lake Wisconsin and got back to the trucks just as the sun was setting. Such a perfect trip with my parents and our good friends. Can't wait to do it again. 1240 miles total on the trip. Millions of laughs. Great food and ice cream and a few close calls for me and LouAnn on the bike but worth every second.

07.08.25.... day 4 of riding on the trip. Started the am off with high humidity again and a plan to ride south from manistique to avoid 65 mph zone roads. The routed county road was magnificent.... For 3 miles and then turned to gravel. S**t. Turn around and back to the fast lanes. Then as we were coming into escanaba on a 4 lane road traveling at 65 mph I had a small deer with spots coming flying across the median toward our lane. I had a f250 truck next to me in the left lane about 1/2 truck past me. This happened in 2 seconds. I caught a flash of the deer and hammered the brakes and yelled f**k. The truck also hammered the brakes and in doing so came partially into my lane forcing me to also act and move right at the same time as being full brake on the front and rear. The deer got ran over by the truck driver side front tire and tumbled. Instantly killed. Thankfully Indian Motorcycle builds safety into their bikes like full anti lock braking and my tires never fully locked and I was under total control. This was a split instant reaction from riding motorcycle for 40 years. Thankfully Brad wasn't following to close to me and was easily able to brake without rear ending LouAnn and me. We never fully stopped but my heart sure was tested. About 2 miles down the road I started to have some PTSD from the garbage truck accident when I smashed into the side of that and totalling my bike and not having any memory of it in 2020. Losing 2 days. We stopped at a Menards for me to hold back some tears and calm down a bit. We needed shade and water as well. 10 am. Closest call I want to ever have with a deer / truck accident. Deer aren't just a night time danger. We found a great BBQ spot called Thermal Chaos Bar. The fun bar in Dunbar, wis. Amazing atmosphere and food. The pics will tell the rest of the story today. We made some great miles on back roads. Sweat our asses off and had a great day. Minoqua is our stop tonight. We we walked uptown and had supper and ice cream. One more day riding back to the trucks in Hudson Wisconsin tomorrow. Some rain is forecast so that will determine my route. Sad for it to end with our friends.
