For those that are not aware, The Island House Restaurant and Marina (fuel provider) closed effective 12/30/2025.

As of today, it is not clear IF the property will be sold and IF offered for sale when a prospective owner would have the Restaurant and Marina ready to reopen for business.

To address the uncertainty of the Restaurant and Marina status for the 2026 fishing season, we have made arrangements for fuel delivery so we can operate for the 2026 season. The fuel delivery company has a $125.00 fuel delivery charge (in addition to fuel cost) that we will have to pass on to our clients to continue to operate.

We hope the future status of the Restaurant and Marina becomes clearer in the coming months, the Marina reopens and fuel becomes a non issue.

Closure: Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Angling Category Southern Area Trophy Fishery

CLOSED: January 13, 2026, 11:30 pm – December 31, 2026

REASON FOR CLOSURE: Based on the best available landings information, the southern area trophy subquota has been reached and exceeded.

PERMITS AFFECTED: Highly Migratory Species Angling category permitted vessels and Highly Migratory Species Charter/Headboat permitted vessels fishing recreationally in the southern area (defined above).

Recreational fishermen aboard vessels with an Atlantic Highly Migratory Species Angling category or Highly Migratory Species Charter/Headboat permit (while fishing recreationally) may not retain, possess, or land large medium or giant Atlantic bluefin tuna (i.e., measuring 73 inches curved fork length or greater) in the southern area from 11:30 p.m. January 13, 2026, through December 31, 2026.

COMMERCIAL: Not affected by this closure.

Aid to Navigation Update.

Wachapreague Inlet bouys that have been missing have been replaced. Existing bouys that remained on station were serviced and the strobe on the sea bouy (LLNR 6600-305) was replaced. Bouy 1 (LLNR 6605) and Bouy 2 (LLNR 6610) have been shifted to the north with remainder of bouys marking the Wachapreague Inlet appear to be in their "normal" familiar locations based on Bouy locations published in USCG NAVCEN Light List for Volume 2 (District 5) dated 04/23/2025.

Want to thank everyone involved in the effort to address the missing ATONs. Thank you to USCG Chincoteague and USCG Cape May for their work in this endeavor and a special thank you to Chief Adam Season, USCG Chincoteague for providing updates along the way as this work progressed.

I've not run the inlet yet this year but the bouy locations appear to be very near the track I was running in 2024. I will post a followup to this post once I've had opportunity to run the inlet.
