Do you get itchy when you’re on your machine, or performing other exercises like running? It’s common, especially when you’re first starting out. While it is uncomfortable, it will go away.

Itching often occurs when your body increases your heart rate and blood flow. The capillaries and veins expand to accommodate for this greater blood flow, which can cause an itchy sensation. Recent studies have also shown that sometimes the body releases histamines to help those blood vessels expand, which can cause that itchy feeling.

The good news is, it’s usually nothing to worry about, and usually goes away after you work out a few times. But if it is causing you to delay or avoid your exercise, feel free to take breaks. It’s better to work out shorter or lighter but commit to the long term.
