After what seems to have been the longest season in the allustrious history of FC Columbia, the team concludes it's Fall campaign tomorrow night against the only team to beat them this year. Columbia lost 3-2 in the first game of the season to Manchester United, and have been waiting over two months to exact their revenge. THIS time, Columbia will be prepared...

Columbia will be as close to full strength as they have been all season. Goalkeeper Austin McAfee returns after a one game absence, while Leroy, Scotty, Gotis, and Kim look to hold down the back line. Brian Grund returns to the field after playing in goal last week, while Randy Collins and Brandon Hawkes will return to their customary central midfield roles, with Stanley moving out wide to help add speed and creativity to the Columbia midfield/attack. Brian Walter will again lead the lines with Georgio Phillips making his second start in the last 2 weeks after missing the first 8 games due to a lingering knee injury which he will have operated on this offseason.

Columbia are looking to end their season on a high note, and a victory against Manchester United tomorrow night will do just that. A lot of changes are expected during the long winter break before the Spring season begins, including some additions to the FC Columbia family. Next season the team expects to be rejuvenated and ready to reclaim the form that has consistently made them the premier amateur team in the area.

FC Columbia lost their first game of the season against Manchester United (not the reigning Premier League Champions), 3-2. Missing a few key players, Columbia were unable to hit the ground running as they kicked off their Fall 2013 campaign. Fortunately, the two sides meet again in the last game of the season which could be crucial in determining the league winner.

Columbia's first goal came off a penalty kick which Glenn Hayman converted after Brian Walter was fouled in the box. Hayman then netted a brace off a Brian Grund corner.

Columbia is off this Friday for the Labor Day holiday weekend, but return to action NEXT Friday, September 6, when they play Royal United Soccer Club at 9:30p at Rockburn Park (Field 6).

FC COLUMBIA - Fall 2013 Season Preview

Another season is upon us, and FC Columbia is eager to get back on the pitch. Coming off a devastating loss in the finals of MDCVSA Neptune Soccer Classic just a few short weeks ago, Columbia will look to put that disappointment behind them and focus on their next goal, dominating a league they have dominated for as long as any of us can remember.

Columbia returns 11 of 12 players from last season's team, which finished the season undefeated. The only player not returning is co-founder and all-time leading goal scorer Georgio Phillips, who shockingly announced his retirement immediately following the Neptune tournament. He has put in years of service to this team, but just could not commit to yet another rigorous season. Columbia is holding out hope that Georgio will return at some point, but after weeks of negotiations, no progress was made.

Columbia will need to make some adjustments to fill the void left by #5, but with their current roster, hopefully the transition will be seamless and they can hit the ground running when they kick off their campaign tomorrow night.

Columbia went down 2-0 In the first half, but were able to pull one back before halftime when Brian Walter walked in and scored off Brandon Hawkes' pass.

Columbia were able to equalize early in the second half, when a Glenn Hayman cross found the foot of Adom Crew who settled and found Eric Finney for his second goal of the tournament.

Tied at 2-2, the Gunners were able to re-take the lead and eventually score a late consolation goal as insurance as Columbia never could get out in front.

FC Columbia were defeated 4-2 by the VB Gunners in the final of the MDCVSA Neptune Soccer Classic this afternoon.

On what ended up being a very hot day, Columbia started the game with just 13 players (two subs) having lost one to injury and one to a red card suspension. Columbia seemed to simply run out of gas after playing four games in 48 hours.

Overall, it was a respectable performance from Columbia who battled throughout the weekend only to fall just short of their ultimate goal.

Austin McAfee recorded his 2nd straight shutout as opposing teams continue to find it difficult to pe*****te a very solid, organized Columbia defense led by McAfee, Andy Bickel, Justin Gotis, Kim Myrick, and Stan Kato.

FC Columbia advanced to the final of the MDCVSA Neptune Soccer Classic this morning with a 1-0 victory in their final group stage game against Richmond Celtic 1888 FC.

Georgio Phillips scored the game winner off a pass from Brandon Hawkes. Brian Walter and Adom Crew were both strong contributors in the buildup of Columbia's lone goal.

It was a physical game on a wet and sloppy field and Columbia suffered a couple casualties along the way. Defender Kevin Gibson collided heads with another player and had to leave the game to receive 10 stitches. Brian Grund received a straight red card on an ill-advised tackle with one minute left in the game that will now prevent him from playing in the final.

Columbia will face Metro Lions SC in the final which kicks off at 1:15p.

FC Columbia eased to a 5-0 victory against Langley SC in their second match of the day. After inclement weather delayed the kickoff over an hour, Columbia came out in a shortened game and handily disposed of their clearly outclassed opponents. The win sets up an all or nothing game tomorrow morning against Richmond Celtic 1888 FC at 8a to determine who will advance to the final.

Columbia got goals from Brian Walter (2), Georgio Phillips, Adom Crew, and Eric Finney while Brian Walter, Adom Crew, and Eric Finney all recorded assists.

Austin McAfee recorded a shutout (as well as an assist) while anchoring the Columbia defense.
