Some footage that didn’t make it on our YouTube video. History lesson of the day 💪 The cemetery predates the construction of Butt Valley Reservoir by decades. The Miller family was living in the valley during the pioneer settlement period, before the hydroelectric development that transformed the area in the early 1900s. The reservoir itself was not created until the 1920s as part of the North Fork Feather River hydroelectric system.

A local tradition says the Millers may have been among the earliest non-Native families to settle Butt Valley, though researchers have not found definitive documentation proving they were the first settlers. (History info provided by ChatGPT)

Are you sure you want to go metal detecting at some of the places we go?! The fire benefited us for a little while clearing the ground. Now the scotch broom has covered 90% of the detecting area here. More to come! and wooly

Has anyone else encountered rails at the bottom of a hydraulic pit? Revisited a site Tenille and I visited before, and I can’t figure out why the rail was there. Maybe they ran a short track to dump boulders off the end? Seems like a lot of work. It was blasted and it was a “gold occurrence” tertiary deposit. Did find a small piece of gold with the 2k. So much nicer having that machine to run in these spots with all the garbage!

Some of the weird stuff you find in interesting locations. Rang up non ferrous and had to investigate. Maybe a bear left this inside here!

This was a weird one. Think they thought they were chasing a contact zone or maybe they were. Hard granite up against it. Very soft and flaky. What were they after? Calcite, talc, feldspar, muscovite? Not a geologist! We did run the detector in it just in case, and found something 😂 🤠

The quad ride was fairly pleasant and then we got in some gnar later! Funniest part is we went to a gold gittin’ spot Tenille and I went to last year but accessed it differently!
