CGV Competition Camp 2026 is complete! These kids, teens, and adults absolutely crushed it over these past 5 days, doing 4 straight hours of drilling, conditioning, technique training, live rolls, and scenarios each day, and wrapped things up with a small In-House Tournament today! Over 20 hours of training over the past 5 days to help get ready for the AGF Arkansas Open next week! The medals have been earned on the mats, now it's time to go collect them! So incredibly proud of every single student who showed up and gave it their all this week!

I'm grateful that while I've been on military orders these past two weeks I've had Coach Linnea and Coach Priscilla able to step up and run morning class so that the kids do not have to miss time on the mats! The kids had a blast and I heard nothing but great things about how y'all ran the classes! Appreciate y'all!

With CGV's 2 Year Anniversary and Belt Promotion Ceremony around the corner, I wanted to take a minute to share with everyone, what I look for as a Coach when evaluating students. Of course, there is the occasional exception, students who can't come as often but put in the effort elsewhere or still compete. Students who earn a stripe after an incredible achievement even if it's not quite on this timeline. By and large however, this is the criteria and pathways I consider when looking at who is ready for that next stripe, or next rank. I encourage every student, that whether this event is a day that you are recognized or moved forward in your journey, focus on cheering for and supporting your teammates who are recognized. You are a huge part of their journey and why they're being recognized. Even if that day isn't your day, keep putting in the work and I promise your day will come. Earned never given! Shout out to for the great verbiage and inspiration for this guideline!

Extremely proud to finally have our lineage visually represented in the gym from the origins in Japan to our tiny little town in Central Arkansas! I received this beautiful picture from Professor Jason during my trip to California last month. The picture depicts the first 3 generations of our lineage starting with Mitsuyo Maeda, a Japanese Judoka, widely credited as one of the founding fathers to bring Jiu-Jitsu from Japan to Brazil. On his left is Carlos Gracie Sr. The patriarch of the Gracie family who Maeda taught in Brazil. To Maeda's right is Carlson Gracie Sr, Carlos' son who along with his brothers, helped bring Jiu-Jitsu to the United States where he passed it to his son, Carlson Gracie Jr, the current leader of the Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu family. My own Professor, Jason Youseph was able to earn his own Black Belt from Master Carlson Jr, before eventually bestowing a Black Belt on me. Japan to Brazil, Brazil to Chicago, Chicago to California, California to Vilonia, Arkansas! I'm incredibly proud that we can trace our gym's lineage backwards in a direct line to the origins in Japan! 5 generations of Black Belts in, and I hope one day we'll pass it forward ourselves to the next generation of Black Belts 💙
