WGVA is an affordable local volleyball club that was started to improve volleyball skills for girls in the western Georgia and eastern Alabama area in order to get them to the collegiate level, or even to just improve their middle and high school gameplay. We are so excited to welcome Cassie Thayes to WGVA!

Coach Cassie will be in the gym tonight to meet you and answer any questions you have about the upcoming outdoor season!

Cassie Thayse recently graduated from the College of Charleston where she was a captain for the Division I beach volleyball program. She also is a former player of the team at Georgia State University. A two-time Sun Belt Conference champion and NCAA Championship competitor, Cassie has competed at the highest level of collegiate beach volleyball while facing nationally ranked programs across the country. In 2025, she led the Sandy Cougars in wins and built a reputation as a versatile, high-energy competitor known for her leadership, work ethic, and strong court communication. She will now be competing with the indoor team at the University of West Georgia while coaching for WGVA here in Carrollton.

Originally from Rochester, New York, Cassie also competed on the AVP junior circuit and earned multiple athletic and academic honors throughout her career. As a coach, she brings high-level playing experience, technical knowledge, and a passion for helping athletes grow in confidence, game IQ, and competitive mindset both on and off the court.

She has been playing volleyball for 8 years, including 4 with WGVA. Throughout her time in the program, she has continued to grow and work hard both on and off the court, while also giving back to the game by assisting with the 10U team.

After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Alabama to major in Nursing with hopes of becoming a pediatric nurse.

Zoie South has played volleyball for 10 years, including 4 with WGVA. She also gives back to the game as an assistant coach for WGVA’s 10U team. A leader on and off the court, Zoie has made a lasting impact on the program.

After graduation, Zoie will attend West Georgia Technical College to study Diagnostic Medical Sonography and pursue her dream of becoming an ultrasound technician.
