em•ber (n.)- a glowing coal from a fire, smoldering in ashes

Shes the newest member of the North And West Georgia Big Game Recovery team, meet EMBER.

Born of fire; with a little nurturing over the next few years, we hope to rekindle every bit of fire that was bred into her.

Many thanks to Robert Longshore, for trusting us with this pup. I shook his hand and promised him I’d get every bit of hunt out of her that he put into her.

Had a great time in the woods the last two days supporting Terry and his training efforts with Ruby and Django. I witnessed Ruby smoke a 22 hour line today that we laid yesterday 3/4 of a mile long. Terry has got me excited about my new pup, won’t be long now!!!

We got the call for this deer after the hunter just couldn't progress the track. After speaking with the hunter and looking at the bolt we really wernt sure where this deer was hit. Bolts dont always leave much reliable sign. We got KL to the hitsite 6 hrs post shot and could tell almost immediately that we were dealing with Coyotes. KL shows very distinct mannerisms when he can sense there presence. We pushed this tracking slowly through overgrown brush for 763yds to a creek. KL dropped down in the creek and began to swim when simultaneously 2 yotes came out the creek not wasting anytime. Another 15 yards up the creek I spotted the deer still very much alive bedded on the opposite side watching us coming up his track. We were able to get a follow up shot in him before KL got him out his bed and just moments before the 2 yotes got the best of him. Unfortunately for the hunter he had to take alittle swim to retrieve his deer. On a lighter note this makes KLs 75th recovery as a 2 year old dog! We're hoping to break 100 recoveries with him by the end of the season!

This track was another great example of persistence paying off! The hunter knew there was only a possibility of a lung shot due to the steep angle of the shot and the arrow didn't show much sign to even confirm that. After gridsearching with friends for several hours the hunter lost all hope with little sign and no deer to show. When we received the call it was more so just to confirm the deer was alive and had just hadn't walked by it in the thicker areas they searched. We started KL at the hitsite 15 hrs post shot and he immediately lined out through the grid searched area into a open 40 acre field never skipping a beat. We found a few drops of blood on the wet grass confirmed our line. Once we made it back into the hard woods on the other side I could see the deer ahead only another 75yds or so. When I told the hunter we had his deer he was in true disbelief. These are the kind of tracks that really bring meaning into what we do. Being the highlight reel at the end of a emotional roller-coaster never gets old! This track start to this finish took 7 minutes.

As hunters we owe it to the animals to exhaust all possible efforts to attempt to recover them. A young man liver shot this deer and him and his father searched until they lost the track in a stand of hard woods where they ended up backing out and giving me a call. After speaking with them we gave this deer the most part of the day to expire. We put KL on the deer at the hitsite and 900yds later in short fashion we had this deer up out of his bed and we're able to get a follow up shot in him to complete the hunt. This deer is never recovered without the persistence of the hunter and a solid tracking dog. Congrats to this young man!

This hunter made a perfect shot. It was uphill from the ground on a trotting deer. Only 4 or 5 drops of blood in the field in the first 20 yds. He was unsure of the hit so he called. We gave it 5 hrs. and Scarlett walked right to the deer in less than 200 yds. She’s been struggling without Beyla this year, so it feels good to put one on the tailgate.

We absolutely love quick and easy rainy day tracks! We got the call this morning after this deer was shot and it came a flood afterwards. The hunter attempted to track the deer but the rain was washing away the blood faster then they could track so they backed out and gave us a call. We waited for a break in the weather and made quick work of this 180yd track. KL had this deer found before we could get our legs stretched out good!

One of our good friends reached out knowing he had a questionable hit. We let this deer lay overnight not knowing that the incoming storms were going to give us some trouble. Rain never hurts a track or washes away scent however rapidly rising and swollen creeks from rain can put throw a wrench in things. We started KL at the hit 12+hrs post shot, we tried to wait for a break in the weather but it just wasn't going to happen. He lined out after a few circles and off we went a few hundred yards to the first creek crossing, it wasn't to bad as it was only about 15 yards wide and knee deep. Once we got across we worked through the rain another 800yds to a swollen creek that just wasnt passable. We were very certain that the deer went into the creek and were worried that it bedded in the creek bed and rising water over night claimed him. KL was very adamant the deer went into the creek. We started working down stream along the creek edge in hopes of maybe seeing the deer hung up in a log jam or hoping the rising water pushed him out the creek bed before he passed. To our good luck about 150 down stream KL started winding this deer that got pushed out the creek by rising water and we were able to locate him legs tucked dead with logs pushed up to him from the storm.

We got the call for this track after the hunter located a small chip of bone at the hit site. We knew right away time was not one our side and got out to this track as quickly as possible. We started KL at the hit site and he took us for a complete circle back to where the deer was shot and kept going another 700yds to get this deer out of its bed and stopped in a open feild where we were able to get a follow up shot and get this deer on a tailgate. 99% of the time if you find BONE at the hitsite you are dealing with a leg shot deer. The only other place ive seen bone from at a hitsite that wasn't leg was part of a bottom jaw from a failed attempt head shot.

We took this track not knowing where the deer was hit. We put KL down at the hit site 6hrs post shot and he went to work. We were able to mark blood shortly after leaving the food plot the deer was shot in and throughout this 1.16 mile long track. We crossed 2 hard roads and one creek to get this deer out of its bed and stopped to get a follow up shot in him. Congrats to the hunter on this fine N. GA buck.

We were able to make pretty quick work of this archery shot deer. The hunter reached out after recovering his arrow and realizing the shot was alittle back. We gave this deer 8hrs and the rest was downhill. Congrats to this hunter on a fine N. Ga buck.

We clocked some miles today on 4 tracks only to put 1 deer on a tailgate. The fact is that being successful doesn't always mean getting your picture made or putting your hands on a deer at the end of the line. The first track we took went just over 1100yds marking blood throughout the track and jumping the deer out of a bed, he looked quite healthy and we are sure he'll live to see another day. Second, we knew going into the track that we had very little chance of recovery but due to the caliber of deer and the hunter wanting to exhaust all efforts we took it anyways, we never came close to catching up with this deer, he never slowed down. Third, the hunter aired on the side of caution as he suspected he made a less then marginal shot, turns out just 175yds in he made a great shot! Forth, we took a track from yesterday that was previously tracked by another team. The hunter just wasn't pleased with how the previous track went and asked us to come out to verify. We put KL down at the hit site and after a few minutes settling in we locked in and off we went. We started marking dried blood just 40 yds into the track in the opposite direction the previous team went. We tracked this deer like it owed us money for 1.82 miles marking dried blood throughout to a property line we were not able to cross. We never found a bed or any indication of this being a mortal wound and left the hunter with some peace of mind. We excepted no money for this track as we gained a new hunter to track for and he already paid a previous team that didn't produce. So although TJ and KL only got to take one picture today we consider ourselves to of had a very successful day. Tomorrow is a new day!
