Eight things that separate a roster from a team.

Number six is funnier than it should be. Everybody has lived through the Saturday where the ninth player texts at 7:40 that traffic is bad and the lineup card gets rewritten in the parking lot.

Nobody in adult league is carrying the bat on the left.

The dents are the resume. The grip tape wore smooth in the exact place your hands go, the sleeve stretched to the shape of your knee, the scoresheet got folded into a back pocket and stayed there all weekend.

That's the whole speech. No yelling, no whiteboard. A circle of hands in the middle, a coach telling them to be patient and work together, and then every arm goes up for team on three.

Nobody in the outfield moved.

That's usually all you need to know. He gets the barrel up through it, and then it's eight seconds of grown men standing still, watching a dot climb past the scoreboard lights.

Adult league is honest in a way youth ball never is.

Nobody here is getting recruited. The warm up really does take longer than it used to, the jersey really does get left on the kitchen table, and the ring really does live in a case for fifty weeks a year and come out for two.

Three outs. One batted ball. Nine years old. 🍿

Jackson Olive and Naturals North turned a triple play, and that ball did not stop moving until the inning was over. Paislee Armstrong ended her game with one swing against a team two years older. Ryden Swint went full extension in center field to take a hit away from a 10U lineup. Kyzer Clark and Paisley Hughes handled the rest.

From Kansas City to Salisbury, Maryland last weekend belonged to the CHAMPS. 🏆🔥
