Imagine facing a pitch from 17 feet closer than any baseball hitter ever has to.

That's fastpitch. Before 1993, the ball was white. College softball switched to optic yellow that year specifically to buy back reaction time, and every USSSA Fastpitch at-bat still runs on that fix. 🥎

One of these takes four seconds. The other one takes both hands, a knee on the step and a fight with the laces.

Cleats for the dirt, turf shoes for warmups, and a sandal that has not been worn since May.

Tag the one who has not touched a sandal all season.

A walk-off that never touched the fence. A seven-year-old with a triple play. And a number one spot that isn't even a single play.

Five for five this week.

Which one goes to the top of your list? Drop the number below. 👇

Sixteen feet from the plate, and it takes nine years to feel at home there.

Nobody was in the bleachers for the slide. Nobody counted the buckets. She counted.

Send this to the one who filled the bucket again this morning.

Somebody wrote this to herself before bracket play and left it on the mirror.

Being the underdog is the only position in this sport where nothing is expected of you and everything is possible. Most players forget they used to be good at playing from that seat.

Who is your team this weekend, the favorite or the underdog. Say it in the comments, and tag the teammate who needs this on her mirror tomorrow.

Four questions and everybody already knows their answer.

Nobody in this sport is neutral about ribbons. Nobody is neutral about where a parent stands during a game. These are the arguments that live in every dugout and every parking lot at every tournament.

Answer all four in order. Then tag the person who would fight you on number two.

The ribbon on the right has been tied in the same spot four hundred times.

Nobody keeps the new version of anything in this sport. The helmet gets scratched, the chalk bag goes pale, the ball comes back green. Every one of those marks happened during something that mattered enough to leave a mark.

Which piece of your gear would you never replace, even though you probably should. Name it in the comments.

The proudest moment her parents talk about isn't a hit.

Cora struck out, walked back to the dugout, and it didn't touch her. A minute later she was on the fence screaming for the girl hitting behind her. Her parents' words: she knew it was about everybody else instead of just about Cora.

Softball runs deep here. Her mom played in college. Her aunt played in college. Her grandfather owns the Ultimate Softball Association. And the first thing her family brings up isn't any of that, it's who she is when the at bat doesn't go her way.

You can hear her from two fields over. Turns out that's the easy part to notice.

Parents: what's the moment you were proudest of your kid this season? Odds are it wasn't a hit either. 🥎

Five signs that would need zero explanation at any fastpitch complex in the country.

Card five is the one that stings. That bag has been in the back of the car since March and it will still be there in October, and everybody reading this knows exactly which bag we mean.

Which sign is yours. Drop the number, and write the sixth one in the comments if we missed it 🥎
