Three things I wish I knew when I started lifting weights

1. You don’t need to train 5 or 6 days a week. Most people will see a majority of their gains with 3 properly programmed with the right amount of intensity.
2. Recovery is key! You need to sleep right. You need to eat enough protein. You need to eat enough calories for your goals. Wanna lose weight
3. Consistency over a long period of time is always better then trying to smash everything into a couple weeks

The gym is a classroom. Most people just don’t know what subject it’s teaching.

It’s not teaching you how to lift. It’s teaching you who you are when things get hard. It’s teaching you what you’re capable of when you stop waiting to feel ready. It’s teaching you that showing up, even badly, even tired, even unmotivated, is the whole lesson.

That’s the thing nobody puts on a syllabus. Resilience isn’t a concept you can study. It’s something you have to earn, rep by rep, race by race, one hard day at a time.

And when you prove to yourself that you can transform something as real and stubborn as your own body, your brain rewires. The belief you build in the weight room doesn’t stay there. It follows you into the boardroom, the hard conversation, the risk you were too scared to take last year.

That’s the real return on investment of physical training. It’s not the aesthetics. It’s the identity shift.

“Lifting weights is better than cardio for fat loss.”
That sounds like bro science…

…but when you actually look at the data, there’s a good reason people say it.
A new study supported this very clearly (PMID: 41625248) the researchers had subjects:
→ Eat ~500 kcal/day deficit
→ Consume ~1.5 g/kg protein
→ Split into 3 groups:
• No exercise
• Aerobic training (150–250 min/week)
• Resistance training (2–3x/week)
Here’s what they found:
All groups lost weight.
But the composition of that weight loss was very different:
Resistance training group
→ Lost the most fat mass
→ Preserved (and in some cases slightly increased) lean mass
Aerobic group
→ Lost fat, but also lost some lean mass
No exercise
→ Lost some fat but lost the most lean mass relative to total weight loss compared to the other groups
Why this matters:
Not all weight loss is equal.
If you lose more lean mass:
→ Your metabolic rate drops more (PMID: 3592619)
→ You look “softer” at a given body weight
→ You may be more prone to regain fat later (PMID: 29559726)
If you preserve lean mass:
→ You maintain metabolic rate better (PMID: 2243122)
→ You look leaner at the same scale weight
→ You improve long-term outcomes (PMIDs: 7632212 & 12609816)
So no, cardio isn’t useless.
But if your goal is high-quality weight loss (maximize fat loss, minimize muscle loss):
Resistance training should be your foundation and cardio is a tool you can layer on top to enhance fat loss if you so choose

Weight coming back after stopping a GLP-1? You’re not alone.

These medications work while you’re on them, but the moment you stop, hunger and cravings come rushing back. That’s not a lack of willpower. That’s biology.
The key is building habits that support you with or without the medication, protein, strength training, sleep, and stress management.
Talk to your doctor before stopping, and know that long-term use is often the plan.

Save this if you’re on a GLP-1 journey.

You do not need to be perfect. You just need to stop screwing it up every chance you get.

The 80/20 rule means if you are locked in 80% of the time, the other 20% will not kill your progress.
But let’s be honest… most people are not living 80/20.
They are living 20/80 and wondering why nothing changes.

One good workout does not fix a week of excuses.
One clean meal does not erase a weekend of bingeing.
And “starting over Monday” is the anthem of people who stay stuck.

Eat like an adult.
Train with intent.
Sleep enough.
Handle the basics.
Do that most of the time, and you will get results.

The other 20%?
Fine. Live your life.
Have the burger. Miss a workout. Go out with friends.
But stop acting like every small setback is a reason to completely fall apart.

You are not failing because the plan does not work.
You are failing because your discipline disappears the second life gets inconvenient.

Win most days.
That is it.
Not perfect.
Just disciplined enough to stop sabotaging yourself.

Objective goals are measurable.
Subjective goals are based on how you feel.

An objective goal might be:
“Lose 10 pounds.”
“Squat 315.”
“Run a mile under 7 minutes.”

A subjective goal might be:
“Feel more confident.”
“Have more energy.”
“Move better.”
“Feel stronger in everyday life.”

Both matter.

Objective goals give you a target.
Subjective goals give that target meaning.

The scale, the stopwatch, and the numbers can help guide progress.
But the way you feel, perform, and show up in your life matters too.

The best results usually come when you chase both:
a clear number to aim for
and a real reason behind it.

Train for the result.
But don’t ignore the feeling you’re after.

The squat is not optional — it is the single most effective exercise for building the glutes, and the science is unambiguous. EMG studies confirm the squat activates the gluteus maximus up to 3x more than the leg press at comparable loads. The depth of the squat directly determines glute activation — parallel or below parallel recruits significantly more glute fibers than partial range squats. For women specifically, building strong glutes improves posture, reduces knee injury risk, supports pelvic floor health, and dramatically reshapes the lower body. Stop skipping squats. The results you want are built in the bottom position.
