EVERY OUTDOORSMAN'S DREAM ROOM. 🦆🎣

Decoys on the hooks. Waders lined up and ready. Rods in the corner. A tiled, hose-down gear room built for exactly one purpose — getting cleaned up and loaded back out the door for the next hunt or the next cast.

This is what happens when "mudroom" isn't enough and you build the space your gear actually deserves.

No carpet to ruin, no boots tracking through the house, no scrambling to find your gear at 4am. Just walk in, gear up, and go.

If you live for duck season and days on the water, this is the room you didn't know you needed — until you see it.

There's something about seeing a project from above that hits different. Palm trees, covered porches, every bay lined up just right — it's giving "we really did that."

End of the day, porch lights just coming on, and a build that looks just as good finished as it did on the plans.

This is the kind of light that makes you want to pull up a chair and stay a while — which, let's be honest, is exactly what this porch was built for.

Ten years ago, this was Circle J — metal buildings, full stop. That's what we knew, and we built it well.

Today, as Rafter J Construction, that same crew builds this: a custom wood-frame home, start to finish.

The name changed. So did what's possible. But the people behind it — Farrell and Jennifer Jackson — and the way they build, hasn't moved an inch: show up, do it right, stand behind it.

Metal building or wood frame, barndominium or full custom home — we've learned how to build it all, because our customers' visions didn't stop at metal. Neither did we.

Victoria is home base, but it's never been the whole story. Over the years we've built custom homes, barndominiums, shops and commercial spaces all across the area — Edna, Port O'Connor, Port Lavaca, Rockport, Gonzales, Schulenburg, Cuero, Goliad, and more.

Different towns, different properties, different visions. Same approach every time: show up, listen to what you actually need, and build it right.

A SHOWER BUILT TO BE LOOKED AT, NOT JUST USED. 🚿

Vertical tile in a soft blue-green wash, a pebble floor that grounds the whole space, and a built-in bench that doubles as a spot to sit and actually slow down.

The kind of shower that makes you want to linger a little longer before you start the day.

A bonus most people wouldn't notice at first glance: this one was also designed to be fully accessible, curbless entry, grab bars, and a bench, all without giving up a bit of style. Good design and good function aren't opposites. Sometimes they're the same decision.

THE PANTRY EVERYONE ASKS ABOUT. 🥫
A great kitchen doesn't stop at the island. This walk-in pantry has its own counter space, open shelving from top to bottom, and a sink under the window, so the mess can stay out of the main kitchen.
A few details we love:
✔️ Vertical dividers for trays and cutting boards
✔️ Deep drawers for the things that never have a home
✔️ Outlets right on the counter for small appliances
✔️ Granite countertops that match the kitchen
A pantry like this is easy to plan for at the start and hard to add later, which is why we talk through storage and layout early, before the walls go up.

THE DETAILS YOU DON'T NOTICE AT FIRST, BUT NEVER STOP NOTICING. ✨
Big rooms get the attention, but it's the small choices that make a home feel like it belongs to the people in it.
A pattern that carries from the bathroom floor into the shower niche. A shower floor that feels as good as it looks. A slab of granite no other kitchen will ever have. Stone and timber that tie the kitchen to the land around it.
None of it happens by accident. Details like these get decided long before the tile goes down, which is why we walk through selections with our customers early, when there's still room to get them just right.

ELECTRICAL IS EASY TO OVERLOOK — AND EXPENSIVE TO FIX LATER. ⚡

Electrical planning happens early, often before a project feels "real" yet. That makes it easy to skip past — but it's one of the cheapest things to plan for now and one of the most expensive to add later.

Adding a wire run or an outlet during framing costs next to nothing. Coming back for it after the walls are finished means cutting into drywall, patching, repainting, and paying for the extra labor that comes with it.

Here are a few of the small electrical details from some of our recent builds that make daily life easier once you're actually living in the home — swipe through to see them.
