Behind the Badge: Cpl. Morgan Trevino
Corporal Morgan Trevino serves as a School Resource Officer with the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office, where she has spent much of her career working with students throughout Victoria. Recently promoted to corporal, Trevino has served with VCSO for nearly five years and says becoming an SRO was a goal she had from the very beginning.
Born and raised in Victoria, Trevino attended Chandler Elementary, Cade Middle School and Victoria West High School. Her interest in becoming a School Resource Officer was influenced by an SRO she knew while attending West, Senior Deputy Phillip Barron. Trevino remembers the impact he had on students and says he became one of the reasons she ultimately chose a career in law enforcement and specifically wanted to work in schools.
Trevino began her law enforcement career by enrolling in the Victoria College Police Academy. She initially paid her own way through the academy before being sponsored by the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office. The ultimate decision to join VCSO came after seeing the family-oriented culture within the agency and hearing how employees supported one another and wanted to see each other succeed.
After graduating from the police academy in May 2022, Trevino spent a short time working in the Victoria County Jail before moving into the School Resource Officer Division. She began at Cade Middle School before moving to Victoria West High School and later Victoria East High School, where she currently serves. During the summers, she has also had opportunities to gain experience in patrol, Criminal Investigations and the Special Crimes Unit.
For Trevino, working in schools is about much more than law enforcement. Spending each day around students has allowed her to build relationships with them, encourage them and help guide them in the right direction. She says she sees their potential and genuinely wants to see them succeed, even when that sometimes means showing them a little tough love.
Her passion for working with young people also carries into her life outside of VCSO. Trevino played basketball at Victoria West and later at Victoria College, where she served as a team captain. She continues to stay involved with the sport by volunteering as a basketball coach, including coaching summer leagues and helping young athletes develop their skills. She also enjoys running, drawing and painting.
Trevino holds an Associate of Science degree and hopes to eventually continue her education. Looking back on her career so far, she says one of the things she appreciates most about VCSO is the support and opportunities she has received to grow.
From the school hallways to the basketball court, Trevino’s passion for helping young people remains at the center of what she does. As she continues into her new role as corporal, she hopes to keep building relationships, supporting students and serving the Victoria community she has always called home.
