This week at UCO Team Camp, our Vici Boys competed against 3A, 4A, and 5A programs from across the state, and outside the state. As one of the smallest schools in Oklahoma (B-2), our kids embraced every challenge that came their way. We battled all the way to the semifinals and came up two points short against the team that eventually won the division.
What stood out wasn’t the result, it was the effort, chemistry, and growth. Our players got valuable reps against bigger athletic teams, experienced different styles and speeds of play, and competed for the first time with a shot clock. Those experiences are invaluable as we prepare for the upcoming season.
One thing about this group: Coachable
Looking back on the summer, wins and losses aren’t what matter most, but it’s hard not to appreciate what these kids accomplished. Finishing the summer 42-4 with zero practice time says a lot about their commitment to each other. We learned on the fly, adjusted in games, and often played multiple games a day while exhausted. Not once did these kids make excuses. They simply showed up, competed, and found a way to get better.
The future is bright because of the character in this locker room. The chemistry continues to grow, the work ethic is there, and these young men genuinely enjoy competing together.
Proud of every player who invested their time this summer. Proud of the way they represented Vici. Most importantly, proud of the way they continue to put the team first.
The most exciting part is we have tons of room for improvement. This group is special!
Lastly, Thank you parents, players, managers, Mr. Nelson, Ms. Laura for driving us and helping so much, it doesn’t go unnoticed!
