Meet our 2026 Hall of Fame Inductees. Induction ceremonies to take place Aug 28th and Aug 29th.

Today we recognize the 1977 WCHS Wrestling State Champions - A State Champion by a Wide Margin

Under the direction of two first year coaches, Head Coach Randy Miller and assistant coach Rusty Parks, the Matjackets won the school's fifth KHSAA State Championship.

Early in the season the team signaled to the rest of the state that they were ready to contend by winning the prestigious Woodford County Invitational (WCI) and placing well in a number of other tournaments

On Feb. 19th, 1977 the team won the State Wrestling Tournament outperforming the 2nd place finisher Louisville Fern Creek 117.5 to 70, a 47.5 point winning margin. At the time it was the largest victory margin ever in the state.

Sophomore Brian Cotton (112 Ibs) won the State Championship and his teammates senior Rob Marshall (138), senior Brian Boggs (145), and junior Ricky Bottoms (126) finished as State Runner’s Up.

Sophomore Mark Hill (105) finished a strong 3rd in the state, with senior Terry Jones (Heavyweight) and junior Tommy Castle (132) bringing home 4th place finishes.

Freshman Robbie McGohon (98) took home a 5th place finish.

The 1977 Wrestling State Champions contributed to Woodford’s profound winning tradition in its wrestling program.

Congratulations to our Alumnus, Ian Horn, on being inducted into the WCPS 2026 Hall of Fame!🖤💛

Ian was an outstanding wrestler during his time earning an incredible list of achievements including:

🐝 Kentucky Most Valuable Wrestler
🐝 All American
🐝Undefeated for 3 consecutive seasons
