It is based in the Downeast and Midcoast regions of Maine. Head coach, Fencing Master John Krauss founded the club in 1996. With the support of many parents, devoted fencers, and supporting coaches, and the local community, the club has grown to produce many excellent fencers including national medal winners. While DESF produces competitive and recreational fencers, it strives to maintain a positi
ve teaching and coaching environment for fencers of any age and any skill level; welcoming new and experienced fencers from far and near. DESF regularly meets 5-6 times a week at the Verona Fencing Studio: 19 West Side Dr. Verona Island, ME 04416. There are classes for kids (ages 8-11), teens (12-17), and adults (18+). Classes are nicely structured to include warm-ups, footwork and bladework practice and bouting. Instruction is offered in foil, epee and saber for recreation and competition training. First class is on us! Fencers are encouraged to come and fence as often as they like. While injuries are a reality of any sport, DESF strives to maintain a safe and injury-free setting with proper warm-ups, stretching, and safe conduct when fencing.
