"Play like you are always chasing something."

Check out today's alumni feature with Dylan Hesch (.dylan) who is currently playing at Upper Iowa University and spending his summer with the Honkers in Rochester.

When did you play for Verona? What position(s)?
I played for Verona during the 2020-2024 seasons. I was a pitcher, and I played the middle infield.

What are you doing today?
I am playing baseball at Upper Iowa university and currently I am pitching for the Rochester Honkers in the Northwoods league!

Do you have a favorite memory?
My favorite memory would have to be all the team dinners and hitting in the shed early before practice with the guys.

What's something you learned from playing baseball that's stayed with you?
Something that I have learned about baseball is never to take anything for granted, play like you are always chasing something and can always be better.

What advice do you have for younger players?
The advice I have for younger players is to always stay humble, you also never know who is watching so do your best to always lead by example.

That's something Jack DeTienne () says he's learned from baseball that has stuck with him over the years. DeTienne was a pitcher and shortstop for the Wildcats from 2021-2024.

What are you doing today?
Playing at Xavier University while studying finance

Do you have a favorite memory?
Some of my favorite memories are from bus rides with the boys.

What's something you learned from playing baseball that's stayed with you?
Something I’ve learned from playing baseball is that nothing is handed to you in this game. If you want to be great, you have to go get it.

What advice do you have for younger players?
My advice for younger players is to enjoy every moment and never take the game for granted. Work hard, stay coachable, and trust the process because success doesn’t happen overnight. The little things you do every day will separate you in the long run, and make sure to cherish every moment with your teammates because those memories will last forever.

Congratulations to Verona Area Wildcats Junior Varsity 2 team on a strong season! The Wildcats finished 16-7 overall. The team stole 90 bases (90/100) in 23 games (nearly 4/game), had a team 2.32 ERA, and held a .211 opponent batting average. Nice work!
