In exercise, there is a positive (concentric) and negative (eccentric) movement, in which both are VERY important for optimizing each repetition.

Positive concentric is the lifting phase and the negative eccentric is the lowering phase. In the TRX exercise displayed below, the positive movement is the pulling up phase and the negative movement is the coming down phase with a half second reset at the end of the movement.

💫 Why is this important?

Controlling each phase of the exercise will get the MOST out of each exercise. Each phase is equally important.

Use this mindset (control) when doing all exercises. This mindset will bring the most out of your exercises and overall workout. It will keep form on point as well.

Think about what you read above and correlate it with the basic exercises below. They each have a positive and negative phase.

Push-ups
Squats
Bicep curls
Tricep dips
Lunges
Sit-ups
Etc.

Your mind is your strongest tool when exercising. Don’t try to be the first one to finish… Be the one who understands the importance of form, control, breathing and technique.

Heart rate tracking is another important tool, in which I will discuss here soon!

There’s this single flower right outside of TBG and it has me in my feels this morning…

This flower simply exists, but it provides much more…

It’s beautiful.
It smells wonderful.
It provides to nature.
It has no hate.
It has no judgment.

Many of us live to love, but there’s always going to be someone or something that brings us down. Why is that? Is it because some people live in hate and that is all they know? I’m really not sure, but one thing I do know is…

We only grow together. A single flower may struggle to survive in nature, but if it’s loved and protected, it will continue to thrive and help other flowers thrive as well.

I don’t know about you, but I want myself and everyone around me to continue to thrive.

Instead of seeing a flower and only a flower, look deeper and see what this flower can mean to others and the world it exists in. Life doesn’t revolve around your own wants and desires. There’s so much more and it’s important to burst that bubble and protect all of the flowers in the world.

My homie Heidi sent me a video the other day to replicate. I think I did it all, besides the somersaults at the end, only because I don’t have big boxes 😉

This leads me to a solid point that we solidify here at TBG…

Exercise can be FUN!

Variety is the spice of life, as well as the spice of exercise. Don’t get stuck in the same routines over and over again. First, your body gets used to the same movement and routine. Second, you’ll get bored!

41 and still trying crazy sh*t 🤪. Sorry, 8:30 crew for scaring you this morning! Lol

I couldn’t have done this in my 20s or 30s. I exercised, but I wasn’t treating my mind and body with the respect it needed to be at its best. I get emotional a lot these days because I think I’m finally proud of myself, or at least trying my best to be. My family and everyone at TBG inspire me to be better and for that I am forever grateful.

We remind our members this all of the time…

EVERY decision matters.
EVERY piece of movement matters.
EVERY adjustment matters.
EVERY test of willpower matters.
EVERY thing you do in life MATTERS.

Even on vacation, don’t enter the f*ck it stage and throw all of your hard work out the window. Stay mindful and aware of your decisions.

Our brains are our most powerful tool. Once we master balance, moderation and mindfulness, we become the strongest version of ourselves.

Instead of waking up today and stressing about things you can’t control, get on those two feet and push forward. Every day you choose to complain and make excuses, is another day that weakens the ground you walk on.

🍏💦🍌 THE IMPORTANCE OF HEALTHY NUTRITION & HYDRATION 🍏💦🍌

Have you heard the phrase, “You are what you eat?” There is so much truth to this phrase.

Our bodies and minds are built to receive the necessary nutrition and hydration needed to thrive in life. They are not built to take in processed and preserved foods that are manufactured to taste “yummy.” Shop on the outside of grocery stores (fresh) and eat what earth has provided us (meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts, grains).

Jennifer “JF” has always had a consistent approach with her nutrition and her results have been inspiring, as well as maintainable. I asked her a few questions below. Please read her insight and tips.

Why is healthy nutrition important to you?

JF - I love to stay in shape and feel good about myself and my choices. I’m always on the go and it provides me the energy needed to keep moving.

How do you find consistency with healthy nutrition?

JF - I make it a priority, so anything else is not an option. Everything I do, especially if it’s a not so healthy treat, is in moderation. I never overindulge.

What’s a tip you can give to stay hydrated?

JF - I have water on me throughout the day. I never leave the house without my water bottle, whether at home, work, the gym or anywhere else.

What about healthy nutrition helps you with exercise?

JF - I believe when my nutrition and water intake is the best, I have the most energy and focus. If something is off or I’m feeling foggy, I always look to adjust my hydration and nutrition.

Remember, you are what you eat and your energy levels are dependent on a consistent, maintained and balanced nutrition and hydration plan.
