We freaking love - USAโs 76kg Olympic Silver Medalist! ๐บ๐ธUnlike so many other athletes we see, Kate showed grace, class and DETERMINATION when the Jury decided to overturn the refs call and judge her 114kg PB sn**ch a No Lift.
Kate in the TeamUSA interview: โThat was one of the best lifts Iโve ever done in my life, especially at that weight, and it is definitely a disappointment that it was overturned," Nye said. "But when it comes down to it, I broke the rule, so I saw it and was like, โOh shoot,โ and itโs something you donโt think about very often, especially in an emotional moment like that. Itโs a disappointment but they were right and all I can do is learn from it, so thatโs what I plan on doing."
Weโve had a few request to clarify why the lift was overturned.
๐นIn Olympic Weightlifting, the barbell must be gently guided down from overhead with hands contacting the bar until the athleteโs shoulder height. Kate missed this mark within 4-5 inches. INCHES. But as the rules currently stand, it was a good call.
In addition to releasing her hands slightly early, she also bent her knees down in excitement. This made the bar appear much higher. **Swipe for pics of bar levels.**
Shout out to and for not throwing a fit as we are accustomed to seeing coaches do in such big overturn. Class act, as always. Go - GO Team USA! ๐บ๐ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐บ๐ธ
**This pic is of Kate releasing the bar after her first clean and jerk. She guided it perfectly and also controlled the rebound (hands in pic). At first I missed the quick and ever so slightest death glare, and had to replay when the commentator mentioned it. Love it! **
