Update on breakdown.....
Found impact damage on one prop blade....
and complete destruction of upper drive gearset 😭
The bearings were fine so apparently there was a deadhead or something that we hit.
New drive upper half is on the way this coming week.

Well today didn't go to plan...... thankfully it was a fun-day and not a charter.
This is NOT the view I was expecting.
First time being towed in over 25 years of serious boating.
Cruising out at normal 3200RPM and slowly felt increase of drag (like running in following seas and climbing the next wave) and then BANG./GRIND...
Engine free-reved and lost all propulsion.
Thanks to TJ / Vermilion TowBoatUS for prompt and skilled service.
Won't know exact cause of failure until later in the week when I get the boat back to the shop, but I suspect the sterndrive failed internally.

Well, it seems my Charter Page was hacked recently.
The past couple of week's posts were missed/redirected/deleted.

Anyhow, after a week or so of dealing with FB customer "services" I think its fixed.

LOTS of missed posts but let's move forward NOW......

Fish are HUNGRY and schooled up. Not easy to find but GREAT when you got on them!!!

Just a reminder!!!

Just a PSA with the upcoming extended cold snap on the horizon.....

Batteries in the mowers/tractors/RVs/boats/etc that haven't been used/charged since fall need to be fully charged to survive the deep cold.

A conventional (lead/acid) battery will need to be at LEAST 50% charged or the water/acid inside will freeze and damage the plates. The chart below gives you a good reference point.

Today is forecast to be right at 32F so it's the PERFECT time to top off these batteries!..... it can save you $$BIG$$ in the spring!!

This will be a big Lake Erie seiche! The peak of the event (highest water in Buffalo, lowest in Toledo) will be around noon to 3pm Monday. The water level is expected to be 12+ feet higher on the east end of the lake compared to the west end. This is due to the very strong winds out of the west to southwest during the day. We have had several of these events since November, but this has the potential to be the largest of the year.
