Good News Everyone! The new Schedule 80 pipe has arrived, and we now have all the parts and pieces needed to begin repairing the pool’s plumbing system! The excavation is complete, the area has been prepped, and installation work is scheduled to begin on Monday.

The good news? We are still on track for our June 13 opening!

While these repairs are underway, we have been working hard to keep the water moving and maintain water quality by:
Using sump pumps to create circulation
Adding chemicals manually
Vacuuming the pool three times each day
And testing the water 2x a day

The results were almost immediate, and the water has cleared up significantly. We will continue this process until the new pipes are installed and the filtration system is fully operational again.

This project has required a tremendous amount of problem solving, and patience. Thank you to our Department of Public Works and everyone involved for their hard work and dedication to getting the Pool ready for summer.

The good news? After many days and countless hours of work, our DPW crew has finally removed the old pipe from the fl**ge! What seemed like a simple task turned into a challenge that required chiseling, sawing, hammering, and a fair amount of determination. I can’t thank our DPW team enough for their hard work and persistence.

The new Schedule 80 pipe is on its way, and as soon as it arrives, it will be installed to replace the old pipe. This is a major step forward and brings us one step closer to opening the pool.

Now for the bad news. Yes, we know the pool is green. With the circulation system offline while repairs are being made, the water has not been able to filter and circulate properly, allowing algae to take hold. The good thing is that once the new pipe is installed and the system is back online, we can begin circulating, balancing, and treating the water. Pool water can clear up surprisingly quickly when the filtration and chemical systems are operating correctly, and we’ll be working hard to get it back to the crystal clear look we are used too!

Trust me, I am just as excited and eager as all of you to get this pipe replaced and the pool up and running. Every day brings forward progress, and we’re getting closer.

In the meantime, work around the pool grounds continues:
Bathroom trim is being painted.
Benches in the changing stalls have been sanded and given a fresh coat of paint.
The bathroom floors have received their second coat of paint.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we work through these unexpected repairs. We know everyone is anxious to get in the water, and we’re doing everything we can to make that happen as quickly as possible.

The Department of Public Works has worked incredibly hard over the past few days to get us to this point. Can you imagine trying to get those bolts out when they were completely coated in cement, literally having to chisel them out just to gain access?

They did it.

It has taken an incredible amount of time & energy. They dropped everything on their list, and have spent countless hours at the pool get us to this point. I am incredibly thankful for everything they have done!

Once the proper pipe arrives, it will be installed correctly, and we can finally begin moving forward. I will continue to keep everyone updated as progress continues.

Also, Cinderella is still looking for her owner! If you’ve lost her, please reach out. In the meantime, she will continue to oversee the project.

Today at the pool, DPW uncovered more of the issue we’ve been dealing with underground. As you can see in the photo, the damaged and corroded pipes are completely encased in concrete as they get closer to the pool wall, making this repair much more complicated than a typical pipe replacement.

Our biggest priority right now is gaining safe access to those lines without damaging the pool itself, especially after recently having the pool refinished. Because of that, we immediately reached out to Patnode Pool Plasterers to discuss the safest and best approach for removing the surrounding concrete and accessing the pipes properly.

We have also contacted professional concrete cutters, and in the meantime DPW is carefully working to expose as much as possible while minimizing any risk to the pool structure. Our electrician is also on site due to the grounding wires and the importance of keeping the pool properly and safely grounded throughout the repair process.

It truly has become a team effort, and I’m incredibly grateful for the hard work, patience, and expertise being brought to this project. Huge thanks to DPW and everyone involved for continuing to push forward to make sure the pool is ready for swimmers this season.

In the meantime, Cinderella has apparently taken over job site supervision duties. She’s keeping a close eye on the workers while also searching for her fairy godmother… who may have wandered off with the magic wand we could really use right about now.

I’ll continue to keep everyone updated as best as I can. Thank you all for your patience and support.

As many of you know, pool season prep always seems to come with a few surprises, and this year is no different. When we turned the pump system on at the pool, we noticed water coming up through the concrete. Honestly, it goes right along with everything I’ve experienced while taking over the pool… I guess it’s par for the course!

After running a camera through the pipes, a crack was detected. While it seemed odd to find a crack in that location, we knew it needed to be dug up to fully understand the issue. DPW made arrangements, and thankfully they were able to get crews in today.

Once the pipe was uncovered, they discovered that both pipes were heavily corroded, cracked, and breaking down from years of chlorine exposure. The good news is that we are replacing both lines with stronger, more durable piping to help prevent future problems and continue improving the facility long term.

The pool water is currently sitting around 65 degrees, so it’s still much too cold for swimming anyway. We expect to have the repairs completed and the pool up and running this week.

While it’s never fun to uncover another maintenance issue, this is another important repair being addressed this year to help improve and protect the pool for seasons to come.

Thank you all for your patience and continued support! Perhaps I will have someone else open it next year!

Pick a seat… any seat!

Thanks to a generous donation of 19 brand new to us lounge chairs, the pool deck officially went from “competitive towel balancing” to “luxury resort”

No more pretending the concrete is “not that hot.” No more sitting on your flip flops!

This summer, there’s room to stretch out, soak up the sun in comfort. Huge thank you to the donors who helped upgrade our pool deck one chair at a time!
