Have you heard the news? The City of Vergennes has been awarded a $426,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant through the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation to help build the new pavilion! This is an incredible investment in recreation and our community, but it is a matching grant, which means we still have work to do.
The project is estimated at approximately $850,000, and our community has already raised more than $120,000 through local fundraising and philanthropy. Now we are launching the push to raise the final $300,000 needed to secure the full grant and bring this project to construction in 2027. What will this pavilion mean for Vergennes?
Covered basketball courts
Pickleball courts
A covered seasonal ice rink
Concerts and performances
Excercise classes and programs
Community events, parties and gatherings
Recreation that doesn't have to stop when it rains! This will become a year-round gathering place for Vergennes, a place for kids, families, athletes, neighbors and community organizations to come together.

We are kicking off the fundraising push with a party!

Our Commodores have been busy learning, exploring, working together, and having lots of fun along the way preparing to set sail! Yesterday, we learned about the parts of a boat, including port and starboard, and practiced how to use a compass. We also learned about North, South, East, and West…all very important things for a Commodore to know before setting sail! Did you know Lake Champlain flows North, these Commodores do! Today was Team Building Tuesday! We spent time learning about teamwork, communication, and working together. After all, when you’re part of a crew and sharing close quarters, you need to know how to work as a team! We also learned more about Lake Champlain and the legend of Champ. And wouldn’t you know it… Champ even made a visit to Camp Commodore!

Day 3 with servevermont2026 was our most productive day yet!
What an incredible group of volunteers! Today we:
Installed new signs
Cleared trails
Stained picnic tables
Painted court lines
Repaired benches
Every project they complete is making our parks and recreation spaces more welcoming and enjoyable for our community. A huge WELCOME and THANK YOU to an incredible group of volunteers from across the country and Canada who are spending their week here in Vergennes as part of the Champlain Valley Christian Reformed Church SERVE Program! These amazing volunteers are donating their time, talents, and energy to help improve our community by working at Veterans Memorial Park and The Commodore Club all week long.
Today they rolled up their sleeves and showed some love to our tennis courts and Sam Fishman Memorial Pool area, helping make these spaces even better for everyone who enjoys them. We are so grateful that you’ve chosen to spend your week serving our community. Your hard work and generosity are making an impact, and we couldn’t be more thankful!
If you see these volunteers around town this week, be sure to give them a warm Vergennes welcome and a big thank you!
