As our time here at Progressive comes to a close I want to reflect on what matters most.
It’s Fathers Day & I know some of us have complicated relationships w our families, but that’s where you started your journey so it’s relevant as you walk the path of your life.
It’s been 5 amazing, challenging years of being open in this location.
Titles won, close fights lost, students come & gone, and after all of it I’ve leaned a few things.
One: years from now what sticks w you is how someone made you feel or how you were (or were not) of service to them.
Maybe they learned to fight under your tutelage. Perhaps they gained physical fitness. They may have developed some confidence that applies to their own life in a way that will make a difference. Bullied at school?- I hope someday they look back and see how strong they have become & choose to pass it on.
Two: you can do it if you believe you can. Think you are too old to take up combat sports?- please ask Coach Mark, he will gladly tell you his story of KO’ing the undefeated #7 light heavyweight in CA in his very first CAMO fight. Believe you are good enough for that job, that guy or girl you want to get to know? It all starts w belief in yourself.
Three: let go of your ego. The best things will come to you when you stop thinking about yourself. The world is FILLED with others who are just as scared/anxious/nervous as you are. You being the toughest dude in your neighborhood won’t mean s**t to them (or you) and it sure won’t make your life richer (or theirs). But if you can quiet your mind and truly listen to them you can be of service to the things that truly matter in THEIR lives then you really have something. And guess what? When you make their lives better it will inadvertently improve yours. I promise.
Lastly: you don’t need to be perfect. I certainly am not (just ask my other half). I say & think & sometimes even do the wrong things on a daily basis! What’s the difference then? - I’m COMMITTED to learning from my mistakes, doing better, and being of service. Still learning! More to come…this isn’t the end.

Friday Guest Coach Workshop:
Progressive is proud to host Matthew Cohen for our final workshop on Friday, June 28th from 6-8 PM.
Matthew Cohen is the founder and creator of Sacred Energy Arts: a unique, integrated system of health and self development drawing from the teachings of yoga, qigong, and martial arts.
At 12-years-old, Matthew began martial arts training at Kam Yuen’s School of Tai Mantis Kung Fu, eventually earning the rank of 5th degree black belt. He went on to attain the title of Guru in Kun Tao Silat under the masterful Willem de Thouars. Inspired by these teachers and their ability to draw great inner strength from these practices, Matthew went on to study the three great internal martial arts of China: Tai Chi, Xing Yi, and Ba Gua. Matthew had the good fortune to train many hours privately in China with the renown grandmaster Duan Zhi Laing. There he received the masters blessing to share his style of Primordial Chaos Qigong. He then studied under Liu Xuyang in Neija, Ba Gua, and Xing Yi. Matthew earned a position as a 6th generation teacher in the lineage and the only person recognized to teach his style in the United States. Today Matthew is a highly sought after master teacher of Tai Chi as well as Qigong: The art of energy cultivation.

On Thursday night Coach Jordan, Marty & I saw a group of realtors & lenders spend 2 hours starting to learn the fundamentals of beginning w then moving into how to throw basic strikes like elbows, knees, and soccer kicks to the balls!
