Ventura College Pirate Athletics Intercollegiate Athletics The "Eye of Tradition" is upon us at Ventura College.

This tradition includes 15 State Championships, 45 Individual State Champions, 23 National Swimming Champions, and 18 Western State Conference Supremacy Awards. Our most recent state champions were Women's Basketball in 2014 and Men's Tennis, Men's Swimming & Diving and Women's Basketball in 2010.

Ventura earned a straight-set victory over Bakersfield Friday at the Athletic Event Center, sweeping the visiting team 25-22, 25-13, 25-20. The Pirates went to Madison Mierau early and often as the sophomore had 16 kills to lead the VC attack. The Renegades also went to Mierau often as she recorded 12 digs defensively to complete the double-double. VC goalie Payton Steen's last-second game-winning goal against San Diego Mesa highlighted a two-win day for the Pirates' women's water polo team at the San Diego Tournament Friday at San Diego Miramar. Ventura defeated El Camino 18-12 in the opener before their 10-9 triumph over the Olympians. Abigail Humphrey scored eight goals on the day and Susie Hooper recorded seven scores. The VC men's water polo team split a pair of games Friday at the Mt. San Antonio Tournament in Walnut. The State No. 7-ranked Pirates raced past Paloimar 24-5 in the opener before falling to No. 6 American River 16-14 in the nightcap. Lorenzo Russell and Yohan Arizaga each netted eight goals on the day while Oliver Kelly recorded five goals with six assists and three steals. Ventura College

The VC volleyball team delivered an efficient all-around performance Wednesday, sweeping its Los Angeles Pierce 3-0 with set victories of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-17 in Woodland Hills. The Pirates hit .304, served 10 aces and produced eight total blocks to complete the road victory. Addison Olson led the effort with nine kills and Hailey Lauritzen recorded 27 assists. A year ago, Henry Fulk finished the Western State Conference Men's Cross Country Championships in 20th place, earning All-WSC honors. On Friday, he improved on that finish, running in 13th place at the WSC Preview Meet at Edward Vincent Jr. Park in Inglewood. The Foothill Tech product from Ventura ran the 4-mile course in 23:44 to finish ahead of 93 other competitors. Fulk looks to keep his improvement up through the WSC Championships to be held on the Ventura College campus on Oct. 23. The VC volleyball team swept Contra Costa and Victor Valley Saturday in the Ventura Tri at the Athletic Event Center. The Pirates defeated Contra Costa 19, 15 and 9 in the opener before coming back to best Victor Valley in three sets, 21, 16 and 13. Alan Shields totaled 20 kills on the day while Hailey Lauritzen handed out 62 of 66 Pirate assists. Lauritzen and Addison Olson recorded seven and six service aces, respectively while Reagan Vint led the back row with 17 digs in the two matches. Ventura VB Pirates Ventura College

The Pirates' women's water polo team got their first win of the year Saturday over Las Positas before falling to Mt. San Antonio to close the West Valley Tournament in Saratoga. Susie Hooper had five goals, three assists, five steals and three drawn ejections in the two games while Abigail Humphrey netted four scores with five thefts and three DE's. Payton Steen recorded 27 saves on the day for Ventura. Ventura College
