When he’s not in the water, Erik works as a Set Medic, Lifeguards and does Open Water Rescue for the Motion Picture Industry.

Ventura Surf Lessons is owned and operated by Erik Flores who has over 27 years of experience in the ocean, and over 17 years of surf and paddleboard instructor experience. As such, he’s required to have extensive medical and rescue training/certifications, along with rescue and lifesaving equipment for that job, all of which he keeps on hand in his vehicle during surf lessons. He's a Fire Academy

graduate at the top of his class, is a Nationally Registered and California certified EMT, a certified lifeguard, as well as a certified Professional Rescuer. Erik has taught thousands of people ranging in ages from 4 to 80 years of age and is bilingual in both English and Spanish. He's a Team Leader, Coordinating Instructor, as well as a lead surf and paddleboard instructor with non-profit organizations like The Best Day Foundation, Pure Stoke Organization, and has also worked with Surfer's Healing. He has 3 college degrees with one in Social and Behavioral Sciences with an emphasis in Psychology, and also has over 15 years of experience with those who have special needs!

We'd like to give a very warm welcome back to Brandon in his new promoted role as our General Manager! He started with us back in 2020 as one of our first surf instructors and will now be taking over our client correspondence, scheduling, payment processing, and more. The past couple of years, he's been attending school and living in Goleta, so he's been missed, and we, along with countless clients, are so stoked to have him back. Here's a little reintro. from him: "Hey everyone, I’m Brandon, and I’m excited to be stepping into the role of General Manager at Ventura Surf Lessons. I started working here back in 2020, and I’m so glad I did. A little about me: besides surfing, I love to snowboard, fish, and basically anything else that pertains to water. I’m currently studying at UCSB in applied Mathmatics. I can't wait to see everyone I’ve given lessons to in the past, and I’m super excited to meet even more people who share my same passion for surfing." I (Erik) started a new job with Santa Barbara County Fire Dept. and will still be in the water and involved with you all as much as I can, but please know that you'll be in great hands with Brandon as your current point of contact and new lead instructor during and possibly beyond my fire academy duration, and we're lucky to have him back in the mix! That said, Summer is here, and availability is limited, so book now, and we'll see you folks in the water! 💙🤙🏾

Last Saturday, we were lucky enough to have headquarters host us once again for our second round of Adult & Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED with Life-Threatening Bleeding and Tourniquet Application certifications that I instructed, and we can't thank them enough for letting us use their awesome space! When I started this surf lesson business almost 10 yrs ago, I set out to make sure that safety was at the top of our priority list and that any additional instructors I bring on, would be, at the very least, certified to the level mentioned above. The vast majority of surf lessons that take place in Ventura are done at Mondos Beach, which is a non-lifeguarded beach and is all-the-more reason to do this. We're proud to partner with who shares the same vision and prioritization of safety practices. I will be continuing to work with them in not only certifying other surf coaches, staff members and volunteers on their team, but also in developing the first surf therapy rescue program that will soon become the industry standard. Thank you to my VSL team instructors .__.disaster , & for getting certified/recertified, the surf coaches from Flow, and who also came through. Appreciate you all and see you in the water! 🤙🏾🏥🚑

Spring Break is here, and we've still got limited spots available from now into the end of April! Lessons are two hours long, and we provide the boards, wetsuits, AND booties. As always, all our instructors are CPR, First Aid, and AED certified at the very least (some with higher rescue and medical certification levels) and we're proud to be the only surf lesson biz in the area to offer this.
