Well got to surf my first heat in the open men’s and came in third after two of the top French waveski riders Pablo Airways and Mathieu Babarit, which is what I expected but was surprised at how low my waves were scored, so this morning in the first heat of the day for the grand legends age division in conditions that started out rather small with no consistent peak anywhere to be found I expected similar scores. There was a light breeze with lightning strikes on the horizon so I thought that’s cool and maybe a sign of some sort. So I was rather surprised at the first score I heard of 4.5. Better than the day before but I knew I should be able to do better. And then the wind started blowing hard. I couldn’t hear the scores out there but after a long ride that I was able to connect some sections I did hear yellow has a score of 8, so I figured that it must be my two wave total. When I finally figured out that it was the score for my third wave, I thought that’s the ticket and while riding Tyler Lausten’s custom board aptly named the Golden Ticket. Really happy to be surfing out there with the grand legends from around the world and especially all the South African legends- they really know how to charge on these waves.
