Playa Grande, Costa Rica Feb/March 2027 beach house surf camp with Natural Surf Technique. The house is Casa Mirage and sits on edge of the water with peaky beach break surf and great for all levels. The house is 5 bedroom with each room with its own AC and bathroom and security every night. The WiFi is great for those who need to work from home and we grocery shop as a group, with option to cook, go out to eat at one of the many close by restaurants or hire a chef a couple nights which is always a favorite especially after long day surfing. One of my favorite turns was doing layback snap(drop wallet). As you approach the top of the wave step back on the tail as far as possible and then drop your left shoulder to your heal of back foot and let your left hand touch water. From here you shove tail underwater and let the nose of the board come back under body and front foot, once the board comes back under your body shift weight back to back leg and bring nose back around toward beach on a close out or get nose pointed back down the line for rest of the wave.

Quick video for beginners to learn how to cut as they drop in on a wave. Starts with committing to the direction you want to ride(always in direction wave gets smaller to start) then learning how to lean and set edge paddling using slight pressure into hip and upper body in direction you want to go(last 2-4 paddling strokes should be a good starting point), from there it’s looking where you want to go not down in front of you(be inspired by the wave face, where you are looking should inspire what you are doing where you are at) and video explains about coming up and shifting eight to trail leg while maintains balance and pressure on inside rail. Think of swooping - come up compressed and extend body in direction you want to go with shifting weight back. Skateboarding is really good way to practice the feels and what my friends and I did that helped our surfing.

Taking the slide-up Technique from the beach or floor to on a wave and see how it helps you stay down the middle of the board for better transition. Hand placement is so important, but learning how to pull hips forward is a key move to help get front foot to the middle of board for balance and control. Turning hips to soon and rotating upper body with hips leads to spinning off board for beginners. Practice twisting just as feet are about to land and don’t rotate upper body to help sync up the pop up. Using my foot next to thigh keeps hips from turning to soon and more down the middle.
