We fish and hunt in Venice, Plaquemines Parish, Buras, Empire, Port Sulphur, Point-a-la-Hache, and more! Shane Mayfield and I own and operate Adventure South Guide Service in Louisiana. Adventure South Guide Service specializes in guiding clientele on light-tackle Louisiana fishing trips for redfish and speckled trout in coastal Southeast Louisiana. On a typical day you will leave the dock at "safe light" and will find yourself running through a maze of bayous, bays, and marshes on your way to one of the many fishing locations in the area. Once arriving at the first "honey hole", you will troll or drift along while casting to grass covered points or over one of the many oyster reefs in the area. These waters are so full of rod bending redfish and tail walking speckled trout that it is not uncommon to catch 100+ fish each day. The action is unbelievable. To put it plain and simple, light-tackle fishing trip for redfish and speckled trout is like "bass fishing on steroids." A 5-lb. redfish will pull a 5-lb. bass backwards and speckled trout will break the water on a topwater lure until they get it. These fish never quit! Just finished up a 3-day Louisiana fishing trip with Jay Webb and his brothers Jack and Mike. These guys have been going fishing in the Florida Keys every Spring for years, but unfortunately, their long-time guide had some health issues and had to retire. On his recommendation, they decided to try something different and come down to fish with me this year. Safe to say, our fishery did not disappoint. They caught bulls (which was there preferred target), trout, black drum, sheepshead, snapper, Spanish mackerel, sharks, and even some catfish for good measure! Lol. These guys were floored by the size and abundance of our redfish, and I was very happy that they got to see what a great fishey we have here in Southeast Louisiana. I was also happy that these guys were more interested in catch and release, and only kept a few for dinner. Catch and release pays dividends. Just catching up on a few photos. Before you know it Summer will be here and these big boys and girls will be stripping line of our light-tackle on a daily basis. If you want to get in on some of the best light-tackle saltwater fishing in the world, now is the time to start thinking about a Summer trip.

Had a couple good days of weather this past weekend and was able to put these guys on a few fish with the long rods. Hunting and then stalking fish in shallow water never gets old and releasing them means that there is a good chance we will see each other again to repeat the cycle. Catch and release pays dividends.

Last week I had Louis and friends over from Dallas for a 2-day Louisiana fishing trip for redfish. We had some rain around both days, but it didn't stop us from getting on the fish. With the river dropping, and the cool weather of Fall just around the corner, I am really looking forward to seeing what our Fall/Winter fishing is going to play out. Still some select dates available.

Last week I had a 3-day Louisiana fly fishing trip through and my buddy David Leake. Days 1-2 were a little tough, not because of a lack of fish, but because the fish were just not very cooperative. Thankfully, day 3 worked out much better and although we did have some fish that wouldn't eat, my angler was able to sight fish numerous fish in the 10 - 25+ pound range. Still have a few dates open before the end of the year, and it's not too early to get on the books for January - February.

I started to put up another post with fish pics this morning, but while scrolling through photos of recent trips, a photo of a rainbow caught my eye. Yes, as a professional fishing guide, my job title dictates that I use all my knowledge and experience to put my clients on the fish, but for me and most of my clients, it is more than just a "fishing trip". Look at the attached photos. I can't make that happen! It requires being in the right place at the right time, and it's not going to happen if you are stuck in an office or have your head buried in your phone. Get outside and enjoy the outdoors every chance you get. You never know what you might see.

A week or so ago I had my buddy David Bates over from Dallas for a two-day Louisiana fishing trip, and he brought along his buddy Jimmy Smith. Jimmy was a guide on Lake Tawakoni in East Texas for many years, so David was pretty sure that Jimmy would get a kick out of hooking into a big mature Louisiana bull redfish if we were lucky enough to find them.

Fortunately for us, all the stars aligned, and the fishing went about as well as I could hope for. On day one, we pulled up to stop number one, and it was on! It didn't take Jimmy long to realize why Venice, Louisiana is the undisputed Bull Red Capital of the World! Last week I had John Johnson down from Kentucky, along with his sons Kyle and Scott who both live in Nashville. As I always do, the night before the trip I asked John what he wanted to concentrate or trying to catch and he replied with "big reds". Fortunately for us, the next morning conditions were in our favor and I decided to head south and check an area that I hadn't been having much luck in. It turned out to be the right decision and the guys were able to catch a bunch of nice mature Louisiana bull redfish. Still have some dates open in August - September.

Last week I helped my buddy Capt. Bobby Warren out with one of his regular groups. Bull redfish were on the agenda and they showed up in decent numbers. Hopefully the weather stays nice and the fish continue to do their thing for the rest of the summer and into Fall. Still have some days available this month for a last minute trip. Last week I had Ron Boyd along with his grandson Davy down for a two-day Louisiana fishing trip courtesy of my good buddy David Leake . Thankfully for Ron, Davy, and myself, the Summer run of big mature Louisiana bull redfish has continued, and the guys were able to boat numerous fish over the course of the two days. Thanks for bringing Davy down to fish Ron, and I hope to see you again in the Fall/Winter.
